Two pupils dead in Masaka school fire

MASAKA.Police has confirmed that two pupils of Kasaana Junior School in, Nyendo-Mukungwe division, Masaka City have died in a fire that burned down a dormitory.  The incident that happened at 4:00am also left 11 pupils injured. The dead have been identified as Aloysius Ahebwa and Malik Katende. Those critically injured include Christine Adong, a school Matron, Austin Kisembo, Jordan Ssendagire, Arnold Tumwesige, Sharid Mwanje among others. According to school authorities, the dormitory accommodated 15 children of Top and Primary One class. Jamada Wandera the acting Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, attributing it to a short circuit.  He said that although the police Fire and Rescue team rushed to the scene to save the situation, the two pupils could not be rescued. Minister Lugoloobi stole Karamoja iron sheets – state witnesses tell court

Prosecution alleges that Lugoloobi, while at OPM stores in Namanve in Mukono district and at different places in Matugga, Wakiso district, and Ntejeru North Constituency in Kayunga district dealt with government property - that is 700 pre-painted iron sheets marked with 'Office of the Prime Minister'. According to the prosecution, the said iron sheets which were reportedly acquired as a result of loss of property, were obtained in two phases - with one involving 400 iron sheets between July 14, 2022, and February 2023, and another batch of 300 iron sheets obtained between February 1, 2023 and March 16, 2023. Pastor collapses to death during exorcism exercise in Nakasongola

BY URN. NAKASONGOLA. Police in Nakasongola district are investigating the sudden death of a pastor during an exorcism exercise. The deceased, pastor Daniel Naheirwe, 40, went to Wanjuki village in Lwabyata sub-county to perform a prayer and exorcise evil spirits from Jessica Kyohairwe's home. After praying and at her invitation, he attempted to remove what was believed to be fetishes. During the process of burning these items, he suddenly collapsed and died on the spot. The incident occurred around 9 am on Tuesday, throwing onlookers into a panic. Pastor Naheirwe had claimed to possess miraculous powers for removing evil spirits from people's homes, a practice he had been conducting for many years. Makerere University lecturers reject biometric clock-in system again

KAMPALA. Makerere University teaching staff have roundly rejected the biometric staff attendance management system meant to record their clock-in times. The resolution was passed during an emergency general assembly held on October 20 by the lecturers under their umbrella organization, Makerere University Academic Staff Association (Muasa). The university recently decided to procure and deploy a biometric staff management system to enhance staff compliance with time and attendance requirements. According to the university secretary Yusuf Kiranda, this biometric system is intended to be linked to the human capital management (HCM) attendance module and will be implemented as a physical clock-in system across the university, where each staff member would have to clock in at their respective duty stations. KCCA FC terminate contract with Portuguese coach Traquil

List of Shame: Companies using fake documents to get govt gigs named

KAMPALA - At least 27 companies will not be able to supply government for the next one-five years after the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) suspended them over various crimes. Available documents indicate that the biggest culprit is Amman Industrial Tools and Equipment Limited for its involvement in the multi-billion shillings bicycle deal, which happened more than a decade ago. The company is said to have stolen up to sh4.7b in a botched deal to supply bicycles to government in 2010/11. This company will remain suspended indefinitely. MPs discover, exhume ghost dams in Karamoja again

KAMPALA - Ghosts and scandals continue rocking Karamoja, with Members of Parliament recently unearthing non-existent irrigation dams and valley tanks. The legislators on the agriculture committee discovered that despite government sinking billions of shillings in the project, some tanks and dams were never constructed in both Karamoja and Teso sub-regions. Museveni encourages scientists to join UPDF

President Yoweri Museveni has called on young scientists to consider joining the military to consolidate the social-economic transformation path the country embarked on since 1986. Jinja Pastor convicted of forgery

BY URN Jinja High Court has convicted Daniel Muwanga, the pastor of Rock Base Church in Jinja City Southern Division on two counts of forgery and uttering false documents. He was found guilty by Lady Justice Winifred Nabisinde who fined him Shillings 2 million. Muwanga was charged in 2020 with forging documents related to 3.5 acres of land that he allegedly grabbed from his family friend, Reverend Canon Charles Irongo, the deacon of Kyando Parish in Mayuge District. The disputed land is situated in Kyamagwa Cell in Jinja City Northern Division. It was reported that Irongo had sought financial assistance from Muwanga in 2018, providing the land title of his farmland as security. He repaid the undisclosed sum of money in December 2018.
