Relatives of 18 missing NUP supporters storm High court

KAMPALA. Relatives of the 18 missing supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have stormed the High court civil division in Kampala demanding their immediate release. The majority of whom are women and children contend that the continued detention of their people allegedly by the agents of the government is unlawful, and illegal, and constitutes a violation of their fundamental human rights enshrined under the constitution.The missing people are, John Bosco Kibalama, John Damulira, Shafik Wangolo, Martin Lukwago, Michael Semudu, Musisi Mbowa, Vincent Nalumoso, Dennis Zimbula, Muhammad Kanatta, George Katumba, Moses Mbabazi, Yuda Ssempijja, Alphat Mugumya, Peter Kitya, Mustapha Muwemba, Hassan Mubiru, Isma Ssesaazi, and Godfrey Kisembo.In their application, the relatives argue that the government's conduct is a flagrant dereliction of their human rights obligations to respect, uphold, and promote their fundamental human rights and freedoms. Centenary Bank strengthens collaboration with INTERPOL

KAMPALA. Centenary Bank has earlier today committed to positively impacting communities through its Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) agenda. True Care Junior School Ssumbwe celebrates PLE excellence

WAKISO. It was a moment of Joy for Truecare Junior School Ssumbwe, when the school joined other performing school to celebrate the good results for PLE. Sonia Nansubuga scored 6 The Headteacher, Ssalongo James Byuma, said that out of 91 pupils who sat their PLE from this school,61 were able to pass on first grade and the rest in second grade. Western region ministers on spot for ‘hating’ Muhoozi

How mission to rob sh2.4b from NRM boss was executed

KAMPALA: The police have arrested 12 suspects, including their own for robbing sh2.4b from the home of NRM treasurer Barbara Oundo Nekesa. Police hunt senior Kyambogo lecturer over aggravated defilement

KAMPALA: The Police are hunting for a senior lecturer at Kyambogo University over aggravated defilement. Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said Monday Dr Eron Lawrence allegedly defiled a 16-year-old disabled girl. The don jumped bond but police indicated the case is even more aggravated by the fact that he is HIV+. How Uganda’s healthcare system is failing LGBTQ+ people 

By: ALINDA BAGENDA GRACE MBARARA: Gender and sexual minorities, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people (LGBTQ+) have a higher relative risk of acquiring HIV than the general population yet face significant barriers to accessing prevention, care, and treatment services due to stigma and criminalization, sources have revealed. This discrepancy has only worsened in Uganda since lawmakers enacted the Anti-Homosexuality Act in May 2023. Annita Matsika, a senior health journalist based in Mbarara, notes that in Greater Western Uganda, a region with over 20 million people, there are only two drop-in health clinics known to offer LGBTQ+ people safe and inclusive treatment. Bank of Uganda Closes EFC Uganda Limited

KAMPALA.Bank of Uganda has closed EFC Uganda Limited, a microfinance company due to poor financial standing. The action is based on Sections 72 (1) and 12 (1) (d) & (g) of the Microfinance Deposit-taking Institutions (MDI) Act, 2003 as amended. BOU’s decision which also places EFC Uganda Limited located on Kira Road under liquidation also revoked its license, and ordered the winding up of its affairs effective today, Friday. “Bank of Uganda has determined that the continuation of EFC Uganda Limited’s activities is detrimental to the interests of its depositors due to the institution’s failure to resolve its significant undercapitalization and poor corporate governance,” says BoU Deputy Governor, Michael Atingi-Ego.
