Lawyer Balondemu petitions Minister Otafiire in Shs 15bn gold scam probe

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) has initiated inquiries into seven suspected cases of fraud related to land and gold scams against city lawyer and chairman of Kampala District Land Board, David Balondemu. These fraudulent activities purportedly occurred within three legal firms, including M/s Bloom Advocates, M/s Balondemu & Co. Advocates, and M/s Balon Advocates, all believed to be associated with Balondemu. At least 5000 clients stand to lose billions of shillings after Jomayi Property Consultants Ltd, previously Uganda’s leading real estate firm, has been forced into liquidation due to insolvency. The clients have for years demanded for their land titles purchased from various Jomayi estates in vain until their last hope was buried on Monday after a court decision to declare Jomayi insolvent following NC Bank's unsuccessful attempt to retrieve sh868,250,000 from Jomayi. Jomayi's debt with the NC bank started in 2018 when Jomayi entered purchase agreements with Mr. Ssemwogerere John Baptist who had mortgaged his land 50.2 acres for 1.506 billion shillings in Busiro Block 410 Plot 20, Ssisa, Wakiso District, to NC Bank Uganda Limited for loans to Value Trading Stores Limited. Engineer Tumukugize remanded over theft of Kiruddu hospital mattresses

Darlington Tumukugize a biomedical engineer working with Kiruddu national referral hospital was on Friday remanded to Luzira prison on charges of theft of eight mattresses and other government valuables. Tumukugize was arraigned before the court presided over by grade one magistrate Patience Lorna Mukundane. He was charged with two counts: possessing stolen property and unlawful possession of government stores contrary to the Penal Code Act. Court heard that on April 23 at Kakoola village Ndejje parish in Wakiso district, Tumukugize had in his possession certain government stores. They included four hospital mattresses, one blue mattress labelled community advance and three other hospital mattresses with a black mackintosh bearing the marks applied on stores under the control of Kiruddu and Mulago hospitals. Minister Anyakun returns from Oman after initiating talks on better deals for Ugandans

Ugandans working in Oman are hoping for better pay and working conditions following efforts by the Minister of State of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Esther Anyakun, to initiate a memorandum of understanding with Muscat. Earlier this week Anyakun led a delegation to visit Oman where they held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Labour of Oman, Mahad Said Ali Baawain, regarding opening up a new market for Ugandans. According to ministry sources, the meeting agreed to initiate an MoU to expedite the process of Labour Migration in order to officially recruit Ugandans in Oman. “Hon. Four remanded over illegal occupation of Mpigi prime land

The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House working with police has netted four suspects who illegally occupied acres of land in Mpigi district. In a statement, the unit said: "Working with @CID1_UG, we have arraigned four suspects before the the Chief Magistrates Court, Mpigi on charges of Forcible Detainer after they forcefully took possession of land belonging to Lubega Charles Lwanga." "The 56 acres of land at Namwawula Mpigi were rightly bought by Lubega Charles from the rightful owners but, the suspects forged documents which they used to forcibly take possession of the said land by deploying private security guards," the unit added. The suspects have been remanded until May 8.

Museveni meets senior officials from oil giant Total

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met TotalEnergies President for Exploration and Production, Nicolas Terraz who paid a courtesy call on him at State House-Entebbe. Mr. Terraz, who has been visiting the oil exploration sites under the Tilenga project, briefed President Museveni on the progress of the project and also solicited for more support to ensure the success of the operations. “I visited the sites at Tilenga and the pipeline.
