Stay vigilant, Kabaka warns Baganda

KAMPALA. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has cautioned his subjects to be wary of individuals seeking to undermine the Kingdom and advised them to stay vigilant. Chinese tour company named in aiding illegal gold mining in western Uganda

A Chinese company, Nanjing Tour and Travel, has been cited in aiding illegal exploitation of gold in western Uganda. This publication can exclusively reveal that the company's vehicles which camouflage as tourist vans carry Chinese individuals into some parts of Ibanda and Kiruhura districts where they carry out artisanal mining without government approval and licences. In Ibanda, the hooded Chinese were spotted at one of the mining area with the Chinese tourism company vehicle parked near a swamp. Locals said many Chinese are these days spotted in the area with unclear machines that they use to taste soils, sand and other particles. New political party moves to upset NUP

KAMPALA. The emergence of a new political party, People Power Front (PPF), ahead of the 2026 general elections has caused concern among leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP). PPF, which advocates for social justice, economic empowerment, and human rights, is seen as a potential threat to NUP's support base. Kabaka Mutebi returns after months away

KAMPALA. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has returned home following Namibia's refusal to extend his medical treatment stay, citing negative publicity. Initially granted a 90-day visa in April, the Namibian government did not prolong it due to suspicions of a plot he was abducted. Flying back to Uganda on Ethiopian Airways, the Kabaka's arrival was exclusively covered by Buganda's official broadcaster, BBS Television. Upon landing, he was welcomed by Buganda officials at the airport, including the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and Nabagereka Lady Slyvia Nagginda. Trade PS Ssali detained over cooperatives cash

The Permanent Secretary of the Trade Ministry, Geraldine Ssali, has been arrested and faces charges in the Anti-Corruption Court, according to a statement the Statehouse by Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU). The PS joins now joins her alleged accomplices MPs Michael Mawanda Maranga, Mudiimi Wamakuyu, Paul Akamba, Lawyer Julius Kirya Taitankonko and Leonard Kavundira a Ministry of Trade official who were earlier charged for the diversion of over UGX3.4B meant for war loss compensation. Previously, she was summoned by the police regarding the mishandling of funds intended for compensating cooperative associations for losses during past conflicts in Uganda. Shs 806.3bn bailout: Dei Biopharma, Roko benefit

BY The Observer KAMPALA.Last month, the minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija, presented a Shs 72.1 trillion budget for the financial year 2024/25. According to the budget, the government is projected to generate Shs 32.3 trillion through revenue collection to fund its activities. Additionally, the government expects to borrow Shs 1.3 trillion from external sources and Shs 8.9 trillion from internal sources. Domestic debt refinancing is anticipated to amount to Shs 19.8 trillion, with Shs 9.5 trillion allocated for project support through grants and loans.The budget estimates indicate that the first allocations will go towards external debt repayments, totalling Shs 3.149 trillion. Anti EACOP activists sue police, attorney General

KAMPALA. A group of activists under the “Stop EACOP” Campaign have instituted legal action against the Attorney General, as well as several police officers for alleged brutality against them. The group also says apart from taking action against the police, they are also seeking that the court holds police officers individually and personally responsible for the violence meted out against them. Investor fined shs200 mln for depositing murrum in wetland

MUKONO. The Standards Utilities and Wildlife Court has sentenced Kerim Ray, the Director of Yamani Construction Limited, to pay a fine of  200 million shillings. He was also ordered to restore the Lwajjali Wetland in Mukono.  Kerim Ray is through his company accused of having encroached upon and deposited murrum in Lwajjalli wetland. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu, found Kerim Ray guilty of violating environmental laws and sentenced him to a fine of shs150 million and in default, five years in prison for the first count. He was ordered to pay 50 million shillings for depositing murram in the wetland, and in default, serve two years in prison for the second count. EXCLUSIVE: Top Korean NGO boss wanted over shs80m theft allegations

A senior Korean national official working at a local NGO is on police's wanted list to record a statement over allegations of theft of shs80m. The Project Manager of Good Neighbors Uganda at Kyaka Field office, Sinho Kang (Simon), is a wanted man by detectives at Kyegegwa Central police station.
