Is Gashumba running to exile or getting married?

KAMPALA. Renowned political activist, Frank Gashumba, took to social media on Tuesday with a cryptic message hinting at “big news coming” just days he had said he renewed all his visas.

The enigmatic post has sparked speculation among his followers and the political community alike, as Gashumba’s reputation for unveiling impactful revelations precedes him.

“I think he is running to exile. You see his open mindedness has earned him both love and hate among the opposition and his PLU camp,” one of his fans told the Daily Secrets. Gashumba is the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) vice chairman for central region.

Sources close to some people close to top Uganda Peoples Defense Forces generals who had thought they would take the mantle after President Yoweri Museveni are reportedly discomfortable with the way Gashumba has marketed a rather hitherto unpopular Gen Muhoozi in the Central region.

Gashumba’s life is characterised by controversy. While many times he has come out to say he has met with President Museveni several times, Gashumba has not backed down on criticising government for graft and abuse of office.

His past is predominantly opposition and has earned fame for his efforts fighting for equity and justice. Gashumba is one of the people who vehemently supported the People Power (now National Unity Plaform) in its initial stages. He was a long time supporter of Col Kizza Besigye, a four time presidential contender.

Until now even as he is next to Gen Muhoozi, he has threatened to quit the PLU because he says he is not in “the cage” and continues to play a pivotal role demanding for justice in the country.

One of his supporters added; “things are boiling in PLU- it is a pot on fire. Things are burning. Gashumba is too close and well trusted by Gen Muhoozi. This has created enemies for Gashumba.”

But other people anticipate that Gashumba’s teaser signals an imminent disclosure of significant information or developments in the camp such as the resignation of Gen Muhoozi as commander chief of defences to full time political activity.

There is talk that Gashumba faces an enormous assassination danger for his outspokenness. There was an apparent attempt to assassinate Pastor Aloysious Bugingo, an open backer of Gen. Muhoozi. The gun that was used in the assassination of Isma Olaxess is one that was used on Bugingo. It is not clear whether it is President Museveni or Gen Muhoozi who donated a billet proof vehicle to Bugingo and escorts after the murder attempt.

Gashumba has a track record of shedding light on pressing issues and stirring public discourse, and his announcements often carry weight and influence public opinion.

“ By strategically teasing the impending news, Gashumba aims to build anticipation, engage his audience, and raise awareness on the forthcoming revelation. May he have finally got married,” many people who spoke to Daily Secrets wondered. Gashumba despite having children has led a bachelor’s life for long.

Gashumba also has credibility of empowering the public through timely and pertinent information, driving conversations, and advocating for change.

As followers eagerly await further details, Gashumba’s post underscores the dynamism and impact of digital platforms in shaping political narratives and mobilizing communities around crucial causes.

London: A Black Pride Haven

BY JAMES KABENGWA. LONDON.  Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was Sunday filled with the vibrant energy of UK Black Pride- celebrating its 20th anniversary. It brought together LGBTQ+ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American, and Middle Eastern descent joined by their other global enthusiasts and members. Among the thousands of attendees were many Ugandans who have found refuge and peace in the UK. For these individuals, the event was more than a celebration. It was a powerful act of defiance. It stood in stark contrast to the realities of their home country, Uganda, where a draconian Anti-Homosexuality Act was passed in 2023. This law includes severe penalties, with "aggravated homosexuality" punishable by death and other consensual same-sex acts by life imprisonment. The legislation criminalizes virtually every aspect of LGBTQ+ life, including advocacy and support for the community. Uganda is one […]

Uganda Election Turmoil Looms: Warnings Abound

By RICHARD KIZZA LUGOBWA LONDON - As Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections, concerns over the integrity of the electoral process are intensifying following widespread malpractice during the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries last month. The primaries, held to select party flagbearers for parliamentary and local government positions, were marred by irregularities triggering a wave of concern across the political and civic landscape. Critics, civil society organizations, opposition politicians and observers fear that the widespread irregularities are a warning sign of deeper systemic electoral failures that undermine the credibility of next year's national polls likely to plunge the country into political turmoil. Multiple reports from civil society organizations, independent monitors, and local media have documented instances of ballot stuffing, partisan behavior by state institutions, voter intimidation, bribery, and violence during the NRM primaries. In numerous districts, party officials […]

Why King Caesar Mulenga camp should go slow on shs1.8b entrepreneurship camp

KAMPALA: The ongoing National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurs League elections have been marred by controversy, particularly surrounding claims made by the Ceasor Mulenga camp. According to sources, Mulenga's team has been spreading false information about injecting shs1.8b into the Entrepreneurs League SACCO. The Truth Behind the Claims A thorough investigation has revealed that these claims are entirely baseless. There is no evidence to suggest that Mulenga or his team has deposited any funds, let alone shs1.8 billion, into the SACCO. This lack of financial commitment raises serious questions about the credibility of Mulenga's campaign promises as he vies for the position of Chairman of the NRM Entrepreneurs League. Furthermore, when the Buganda and Kampala NRM SACCOs requested that Mulenga deposits funds into their accounts, he avoided doing so. According to Al Hajj Karim Karamagi, the contestant for CEC's Vice Chairman […]

PLU’s Mawanda and Kabanda- the hypocrisy of corruption crusaders

KAMPALA. In a display of political hypocrisy and self-inflicted embarrassment, Kasambya MP David Kabanda, the self-proclaimed Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), alongside his peg boy, Igara East MP Michael Mawanda, suffered a humiliating blow as their so-called anti-corruption demonstration against Parliament flopped miserably on Monday. The duo's desperate attempt to position themselves as corruption crusaders was not only shunned by Ugandans but also snubbed by their own PLU colleagues, leaving them exposed as opportunistic frauds. The protest, ostensibly aimed at condemning corruption in Parliament, quickly unraveled when the public scrutinized the integrity—or lack thereof—of its organizers. Leading the charge was none other than Michael Mawanda, a man currently battling serious corruption charges in the Anti-Corruption Court, accused of stealing a staggering 169 billion shillings earmarked for compensation of Cooperatives. He maintains innocence. This isn’t Mawanda’s first […]

Police block NUP Kyagulanyi’s rally in Nakasongola

NAKASONGOLA. The police and army on Friday thwarted a planned rally by National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi in Nakasongola. The rally was part of Kyagulanyi's ongoing nationwide mobilisation campaign. Kyagulanyi was scheduled to address supporters at Migyera town market grounds, but the event was blocked by security forces led by Nakasongola district police commander (DPC) Stephen Niragire. Faridah Nabatanzi, NUP’s head of mobilisation for Buganda, had arrived earlier in the day to set up a public address system when security personnel intervened, ordering her advance team to vacate the grounds. Nabatanzi expressed frustration, noting that NUP had complied with all police conditions, including avoiding processions and stopovers along the Kampala-Gulu highway. Despite this, the police dismantled their equipment and dispersed journalists, cutting short Nabatanzi’s media address. At Wabigalo trading centre, security forces erected barriers to prevent Kyagulanyi and […]

Uganda’s Harsh Reality and My Journey to Safety: A Call for Global Action

By James Kabengwa LONDON. For years, I dedicated my work as a journalist to fighting for human rights in Uganda. I never imagined that my passion for justice and equality would lead to threats against my life, forcing me into exile. Yet here I am, in the United Kingdom—a country that has offered me the freedom to speak my truth, but also a place that serves as a constant reminder of what I have left behind and what still needs to be done. In Uganda, being openly supportive of LGBTQ+ rights is akin to signing your own arrest warrant. When President Yoweri Museveni signed the Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023 into law, it wasn't just a political maneuver; it was a state-sanctioned attack on basic human dignity. The law prescribes extreme penalties, including life imprisonment and the death penalty for what […]
