Last Sunday was a day never to forget for visitors and parents who thronged Bagimu Pre and Primary School in Wakiso for the end of year concert.
Pupils took to the stage with richly informative, educative and entertaining items such as creative dances, singing, poems, drama, news reading and parliamentary session.
For the parents and other guests smiling from ear to ear and ululating with joy was a constant feature from morning to evening.
The day coincided with the World Aids Day and the teachers had made efforts to prepare a drama skit advising pupils and parents about the dangers of HIV/Aids.
The Guest of Honour, Wakiso Woman MP Ethel Naluyima, hailed the school for imparting pupils with special skills in music, drama, poetry and debating.
“Our pupils need to gain more than class work from schools. In as much as we need to learn as prescribed by the government syllabuses, these pupils need to take an extra mile by practicing and developing their talents,” Naluyima noted.
The school’s Director, Juliet Kabengwa, called for recognition of humanity subjects.
“The arts provide a platform for our students to express themselves, to develop their creativity, and to build their confidence. They also provide a unique opportunity for our pupils to come together, to collaborate, and to support one another,” she said.
“Tonight’s concert is a celebration of our school’s commitment to providing an all-round education that nurtures the whole child. It is a testament to the power of the arts to bring us together, to inspire us, and to uplift us,” Kabengwa added.
After speeches, sumptuous lunch was served and everyone ate as much as they could.
The day climaxed with the graduation of more than 30 pupils from Top Class to Primary One.

Three Charged in Cattle Compensation Scandal
KAMPALA. Three suspects, including a politician and a UPDF soldier, have been charged with the theft of over UGX 1.5 billion from a government cattle compensation program in Uganda's Otuke District. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) announced the arraignment of the trio before the Otuke Magistrate’s Court following a joint investigation with the CID and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Vitol, UNOC now accused of failure to protect petroleum products from adulteration, siphoning
In the wake of accusations of supply of adulterated petroleum products, now Uganda National Oil Company and VITOL Energy Limited are being accused of failure to protect fuel trucks from siphoning. Recent videos and images circulating on various social media platforms show individuals siphoning fuel from moving trucks within the city, an act which analysts say could spark deadly disasters. This newspaper understands that Uganda has in the past witnessed deadly accidents where people who tried to siphon fuel were killed when the fuel caught fire. True Care Junior School Urges govt Support

Breaking News: Kampala Parents School teachers strike as Sudhir fails to pay them
Teachers of City Mogul Sudhir Ruparellia’s Kampala Parents School have gone on strike over non-payment of salaries. The teachers also want their salaries matched with those of their Indian counterparts who reportedly earn more than Sh3m compared to less than Sh600,000 earned by Ugandan teachers. “We cannot accept this kind of discrimination. Even the food we eat is cheap compared to that of the Indian teachers,” one of the teachers shouted. “In fact the food they are giving us is very poor yet the parents keep on paying. NRM bosses dominate LDC graduation list
Several National Resistance Movement (NRM) top bosses have dominated today’s graduation list at the Law Development Centre having completed the bar course. The list shared by the academic registrar at the LDC, Stephanie Lukwanzi, indicates that NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja-Nsereko and Kampala Resident City Commissioner Hudu Hussein will be among the graduands. Ministry closes two medical schools in Luwero over expired licences, extortion
The Ministry of Education and Sports has closed two health training schools in Luwero over expired licences. St. Denison Health Training School and Luweero School of Clinical Officers were closed with immediate effect. This was done after the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports suspended their licenses until further guidance is given. The Ministry's action followed investigations by the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House and Luwero Police that revealed among others that the schools' provisional licenses expired in 2013 and 2017, respectively, and had not been renewed to date. The schools were also involved in admission of non-qualifying students who are extorted in the process and issuance of fake academic papers.
