Kampala, Uganda – Uganda’s security and intelligence services have said they have arrested and interrogated several suspects linked to organized armed rebellion, plots to bomb public places, and economic sabotage through vandalism of electricity infrastructure.
The suspects, some previously posing as opposition activists, have been charged and remanded in custody, according to a statement released today by Chris Magezi one of the UPDF spokesmen.
The statement says that the vandalism of electricity infrastructure has significantly affected districts including Wakiso, Mukono, Kayunga, Luweero, Nakaseke, Kiboga, Nakasongola, Mityana, Mubende, Mpigi, and the greater Masaka region.
Chris Magezi says the Inter-Agency Security Committee, chaired by UPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is coordinating efforts to infiltrate and disrupt terrorist and subversive cells.
“The committee has resolved to take firm action against ring leaders, organizers, and funders of rebel activities, particularly ahead of the upcoming general elections”, Magezi alleged.
UPDF says Intelligence suggests some European diplomatic missions, including the German Embassy, are involved in funding and mobilizing these groups.
The government has condemned foreign interference and will take decisive action against those destabilizing the country.
The UPDF and security committee advise Ugandan youths to avoid falling prey to enemy political actors and instead embrace government initiatives for wealth creation and youth development. Those involved in treasonous activities will be identified, isolated, and dealt with according to the law.

European Union diplomats yesterday visited President Museveni’s brother Gen Salim Saleh to try to defuse tensions between them and the chief of defense forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba who attacked them after their visit to NUP a fortnight ago.
In the recent weeks, Muhoozi has posted on X he was going to arrest Bobi Wine anytime.

Vitol, UNOC now accused of failure to protect petroleum products from adulteration, siphoning
In the wake of accusations of supply of adulterated petroleum products, now Uganda National Oil Company and VITOL Energy Limited are being accused of failure to protect fuel trucks from siphoning. Recent videos and images circulating on various social media platforms show individuals siphoning fuel from moving trucks within the city, an act which analysts say could spark deadly disasters. This newspaper understands that Uganda has in the past witnessed deadly accidents where people who tried to siphon fuel were killed when the fuel caught fire. Hotspots for fuel siphoning include Busia, Jinja, and Banda as well as Northern Bypass and Namuwongo area. Kampala police spokesperson Patrick Onyango told this newspaper they were investigating cases of fuel siphoning in the said areas. He warned those involved of severe punishment once arrested.
