District Officials Jailed for Corruption

IBANDA. Two former Ibanda District officials have been sentenced to 18 months in prison for selling government land. Matsiko Mutwingire Abert, former Chief Administrative Officer, and Nuwagira Tom, former District Natural Resources Officer, were convicted of abuse of office. They granted 13 hectares of Ibanda Forest Reserve to a cooperative society without authorization. The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court ordered them to pay UGX 10,470,000 each in compensation to Ibanda District for the financial loss incurred in recovering the land.

Lawyer Drake Twebaze remanded over shs1.9b fraud

Court yesterday remanded lawyer Drake Twebaze to Luzira Prisons over a case of fraud involving shs1.9b. According to the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House, Twebaze appeared before Buganda Road Magistrate's Court on various charges, including; obtaining money by false pretenses, conspiracy to defraud, and forgery. He was remanded until June 13, 2025. Court documents indicate that between September and December 2022, in Kampala City, the accused together with others allegedly obtained $553,500 from Talib Antonio McDowell of KG Unlimited LLC, Florida, USA, by falsely claiming that the money was necessary as a statutory compliance fee for pre-qualification to participate in a single-source bidding process for supplying a water plant to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries, and Fisheries, whereas not. Security personnel protest as commanders pocket Namugongo allowances

“Everyone who spent nights in the cold at Namugongo is not happy with Mzee (Commandant Military) for carrying away their allowances.” These were words from a source in the Military police circles in reference to reports that a section of soldiers and police were not happy after working tirelessly during the Martyr’s Day celebrations. Basajjabalaba’s KIU Ishaka on spot for detaining patient, carer

Kampala International Hospital (KIU) Teaching hospital has been accused of detaining a mentally-sick patient and a caregiver over unpaid bills worth shs600,000. According to the relatives of Barbara Nayebare, 25, who is mentally disturbed, she has been detained at hospital with minimal improvement.
