The 2nd Twende Zetu Butiama Pilgrimage Safari was launched at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, bringing together dignitaries, youth, and stakeholders to commemorate the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and 25 years of the revived East African Community. Gomba District Officials Charged with Extortion

Gomba. Three senior officials from Gomba District, including two District Service Commission members and the District Inspector of Schools, have been charged with extortion and soliciting bribes for government jobs. Mugerwa John Bosco, Chairperson of the Gomba District Service Commission, Muwonge Michael, Secretary of the Commission, and Lwanga Charles, District Inspector of Schools, were arraigned before the Grade 1 Magistrate Court in Gomba District on July 10, 2025. The officials allegedly conspired to extort money from job applicants, demanding bribes ranging from UGX 1 million to UGX 20 million in exchange for job placements between February and November 2024. Key ally Exposes Balondemu in alleged forgery

Kampala. A turn in a high-profile case has occurred this morning at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court exposing a city lawyer to prison over allegations of forging medical records. Ssegujja Hassan, who had been facing charges of forgery and conspiracy to commit a felony, reached a plea bargain agreement with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). He admitted guilt to all charges and was subsequently found guilty on three separate counts. For each count, he faces a penalty of either a UGX 1.5 million fine or a two-year prison sentence. Lawyer jailed in Justice Kanyeihamba shs200m heist

Kampala, Uganda – The State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), in a joint operation with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID1_UG) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPPUGANDA), has arraigned Obam Andrew, an advocate, before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of money laundering. Mr. Obam is accused of conspiring with Kaliisa David, a driver for Professor George Kanyeihamba, to fraudulently steal and transfer over USD 56,500 between October 2022 and September 2024. The funds were allegedly siphoned using stolen cheques belonging to Prof. Kanyeihamba. $56,500  = 202,813,530 UGX Investigators state that the stolen money was transferred to the account of Loi Advocates, where Mr. Obam is the sole signatory. Four banned from public office over forest Land

KAMPALA. The Anti-Corruption Division Court in Kampala has convicted and sentenced four individuals, including two former Lira District land officials and two businessmen, for their roles in fraudulently acquiring a title for part of the Lira Central Forest Reserve. The convicts are Omara Geoffrey, former Physical Planner of Lira, who was sentenced to pay a fine of UGX 2 million or serve four years in prison. Ocen Alwong Joseph, former Senior Land Management Officer of Lira, was fined UGX 1 million or face two years in prison. SH-ACU: Businessman Charged with Gomba Land Fraud

GOMBA. A businessman, Fred Kirenga, has been charged with fraudulently procuring a Certificate of Title for land in Gomba District. He allegedly obtained a freehold title for Block 311, Plots 36 and 37, despite knowing that another title for the same land already existed. The land in question belongs to Madhvani Group Ltd, and Kirenga has been remanded until July 8, 2025. This case is part of a larger land fraud scandal involving several officials. SHACU targets corruption in greater Mpigi

MPIGI. The Deputy Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Mr. Israel Ochwo, has announced that the Unit has launched investigations into corruption allegations in Greater Mpigi, covering Mpigi, Butambala, and Gomba districts. Speaking live on Buwama FM, Mr. Ochwo on Wednesday morning, highlighted the Unit's past successes in tackling corruption, which he attributed to collaboration with other anti-corruption agencies.
