Police net two soldiers in foiled Kawempe mobile money robbery

KAMPALA: Two soldiers have been arrested following a foiled robbery at a mobile money agent in Kawempe, Kampala. The soldiers had robbed sh600,000 when they run out of luck following a successful interception by police officers. Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the suspects were found with a pistol and several bullets. Luwero hit by Shs41m PDM scandal of ghost beneficiaries

LUWERO: Luwero Resident District Commissioner Richard Bwabye has ordered the police to investigate the district commercial office for alleged embezzlement of funds meant for the Parish Development Model (PDM) programme. It is alleged that at least Shs41 million was withdrawn from the accounts of several PDM Saccos and paid to beneficiaries unknown to group leaders. The affected PDM Saccos include Migadde Parish Sacco located in Katikamu sub-county which lost Shs13 million and Buyego PDM Sacco in Ndejje town council whose Shs15 million cash was withdrawn without the knowledge of the executive committee leaders. Mbarara S6 vacist, mum killed in cold blood

MBARARA: The Police in Mbarara are investigating the brutal murder of an 18-year-old S6 vacist together with her mother. Rwizi regional police said Ainembabazi Ruth, an 18 year old S.6 vacist, and her mother Bashaba Frascisco, a 49-year-old, peasant, were killed on Jan. 5, at Nsiika cell, Ntura parish in Mbarara district. The facts gathered indicate that the mother in the company of her daughter went and visited her brother in Nsiika cell, where she received a call, from her husband Musinguzi Deus, aged 55, with whom they were not in good terms, asking about their whereabouts. Details emerge from Bugingo’s shooting incident

KAMPALA: After examining the bullet casings collected from the scene of crime, police say they have established that a pistol was used to shoot at pastor Aloysius Bugingo and his driver who also doubled as bodyguard Richard Muhumuza. The duo was allegedly shot at along Buwalakata road, Namungoona, in Lubaga Division, on Tuesday by gunmen moving on a motorcycle. Muhumuza, 45, who hailed from Sembabule district allegedly died on the spot. According to his brother, Geoffrey Kayumba and Lwbitakuli village chairman Stephen Ssenyonyi, Muhumuza left three children. Muhumuza was apparently one of the best highly trained body-to-body secret service guards. Entebbe airport police seize 170kg of smuggled gold

ENTEBBE: The Police at Entebbe International Airport have seized smuggled gold bars weighing about 170kg. Sources at the airport revealed to this website that the incident happened on Sunday night and the case is reportedly being investigated by the criminal investigations team at Entebbe Police Station. The exhibits are also being kept at the same station. KAMPALA: There was drama and sighs of victory as a naked coupled escaped from one of the rooms at City House after the building caught fire on Monday morning. The fire which razed property worth millions of shillings also claimed one life. Firefighters and good Samaritans also joined the fight to save other people who had also been trapped in the building. Black Monday: One killed, property worth billions destroyed in city fire

KAMPALA: One person has been confirmed dead while property worth billions of shillings was destroyed when fire broke out at City House on Luwum Street in the heart of Kampala. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said the cause of the 8am fire could not be readily established. Prisons suspend visits, parties and leave ahead of Christmas

KAMPALA: The Uganda Prisons Services have visits, parties and leave among other measures aimed at curbing any form of terrorism and prison break ahead of the festive season. Commissioner of Prisons Johnson Byabashaija announced the raft of measures in his Friday communication to commanders. He asked the officers to strengthen prison security, intelligence and coordination with other security agencies. “Hired prisoner services (Kibarua) is suspended.
