Uganda’s mineral industry takes leap foward

KAMPALA. The Uganda police chief   Abbas Byakagaba Tuesday convened a consultative meeting at the Police’s Headquarters in Naguru, to draw synergies on how to improve transparency in the mineral industry.  According to statement from the SH-ACU and a post by IGP Byakagaba, the consultative meeting aimed to discuss the effective management of gold and other precious minerals transactions in Uganda.   Mrs. Irene Bateebe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, chaired the meeting, ensuring that all stakeholders had a voice.  Brig. SH-ACU arrests fraudsters with $2M counterfeit currency

ENTEBE. In a collaborative effort on Friday, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) with the assistance of Entebbe police, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority security, and a local council (LC) leader, successfully carried out a raid in a garage located in Entebbe Municipality. The operation led by the Head of SH-ACU, Brig Henry Isoke was conducted following a tip-off regarding a suspicious consignment believed to have been smuggled from Entebbe International Airport. The investigation, which began in May 2024 and continued into October, focused on monitoring a consignment that had raised red flags at the airport. On December 17th, the consignment was illicitly removed from the airport, prompting the SH-ACU's investigative team to take action. Brig Isoke hosts UK Anti-Corruption, Shares Strategies

KAMPALA. As part of Anti-Corruption week efforts, Brig Gen Henry Isoke of State House Anti-Corruption Unit hosted UK consultant Nicholas Rowell. Rowell's presentation focused on stopping the supply side of corruption through implementing strong internal controls and compliance programs in both public and private institutions. Rowell stressed the importance of enacting laws mandating anti-corruption measures and policies to prevent corrupt practices. He highlighted the significance of regularly updating internal controls, monitoring transactions, and conducting random audits to eliminate corruption effectively. Identifying red flags and addressing them promptly was also emphasized as vital in combating corruption. SH-ACU led op sees officials charged, remanded for misuse of PDM funds,

BUDUDA: Today, a joint operation involving the State House Anti corruption Unit (SH-ACU) and other agencies has resulted in the arraignment of two suspects, Wakoko Kassim and Nakhaima Francis, at the Bududa Chief Magistrates Court. Wakoko Kasim, the Parish Chief Bunandutu, faces charges of obtaining money by false pretences. He allegedly deceived several Bunandutu PDM SACCO members, fraudulently acquiring large sums under the guise of processing their funds. Nakhaima Francis, an employee of public service, stands accused of falsifying documents related to Bumakita PDM SACCO funds. Alongside accomplices still at large, they submitted erroneous returns and registered non-beneficiaries into the system. Both suspects have been remanded until 5th November 2024 while investigations continue. This development highlights ongoing efforts to combat financial misconduct and uphold integrity in fund management practices.

Anti EACOP activists sue police, attorney General

KAMPALA. A group of activists under the “Stop EACOP” Campaign have instituted legal action against the Attorney General, as well as several police officers for alleged brutality against them. The group also says apart from taking action against the police, they are also seeking that the court holds police officers individually and personally responsible for the violence meted out against them. Expressing their concerns to the media in Kampala, the activists said they not only want to stop the police brutality but also seek compensation from them. Govt names, warns car bonds harboring illegal immigrants

The government has named leading car bonds behind the employment of illegal aliens following an operation in which more than 80 mainly Pakistanis and Indians were arrested. The Internal Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi, revealed that Future Group, Chatha Motors, Jumbo Motors and Lakhani were some of the leading car dealers who employ workers without permits. “Our enforcement team has arrested 38 irregular immigrants. Museveni meets senior officials from oil giant Total

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met TotalEnergies President for Exploration and Production, Nicolas Terraz who paid a courtesy call on him at State House-Entebbe. Tourism bosses, UPDF clash over ADF announcements

Key players in the tourism industry have expressed over the recent announcement by the military about the infiltration of ADF rebels into the country. The tourism officials say the communication by the army was bad for business as it kept foreign travellers away from the country.
