Uganda’s erosion of Justice: The plight of Dr. Kizza Besigye

On January 9, former National unity Platform Kawempe North Member of Parliament Mohammed Ssegirinya died. The public blamed a judge Lawrence Tweyanze for being used by the state to deny Ssegirinya bail to seek specialised medical care. Dr. Kizza Besigye’s lawyer Erias Lukwago has called for the release Besigye to enable him get medical attention to no heed.

Kampala Lawyer Nalukoola Wins NUP Flag

KAMPALA. Lawyer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi has been selected as the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the Kawempe North by-election. He was officially declared the candidate on Tuesday by the NUP Election Management Committee at the party headquarters in Kavule, Makerere. Last week, Luyimbazi competed against nine other aspirants in a debate moderated by lawyer Andrew Karamaji and Dr. Judith Nalukwago. The event allowed candidates to present their visions for the constituency. PDM Secretary jailed over SACCO fraud

Kanungu. Mr. Kamugisha William, the Secretary of the Central Ward Kambuga PDM SACCO in Kanungu District, was on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, sentenced to a prison term for defrauding beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program. Appearing before the Kanungu Magistrates Court, William pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretence after soliciting funds from hundreds of PDM beneficiaries under the false claim that payment was a prerequisite to access program benefits. The court, considering the scale of his actions and his admission of guilt, convicted and sentenced him to imprisonment. Man Charged with Fraud Over National ID Replacement Scheme

Kampala, Uganda –An official from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has been incarcerated at Luzira prison for allegedly deceiving Bamwagala Michael into giving him 250,000 shillings. The accused, Taremwa Jassy, a 28-year-old resident of Balintuma-Mengo in Lubaga Division, appeared in Buganda Road Court following charges brought by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit for obtaining money through false pretenses. Court proceedings unveiled that on January 30, 2025, Michael visited the NIRA's Lumumba Avenue office seeking assistance with his lost National Identity Card. An officer purportedly advised him to pay 250,000 shillings for expedited processing. Uganda to Comply with Landmark Ruling banning court martial

KAMPALA. Uganda's Attorney General, Kiwanuka Kiryowa, has confirmed that the government will comply with the Supreme Court's judgment nullifying all civilian trials in military courts and tribunals.
