RDC Majambere remanded over alleged theft

KAMPALA.  A joint operation involving multiple security agencies has apprehended Ivan Ssemakula, also known as Majambere, the Deputy Resident RDC of Rukiga, following accusations of land grabbing in Gomba district.  The collaboration between the Anti-Corruption Unit of Uganda, the Criminal Investigations Directorate, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions resulted in charges being brought against Majambere and his subsequent appearance in Gomba Magistrates' Court.  Majambere, alongside unidentified accomplices, stands accused of offenses such as Conspiracy to Defraud, Cattle Theft, and Criminal Trespass.  The case dates back to August 2023 when they forcibly took control of a 300-acre farmland in Gomba District registered under 75-year-old Frank Rushanganwa since 2003.   During the unlawful seizure, Majambere's group reportedly took 157 cows worth UGX 318 million, later disposing of them.  Allegedly, Majambere claimed partial ownership through a disputed transaction with Mwesigye, […]

Alien Skin remanded for assaulting Nsambya medics after colleague’s death

Musician Patrick Mulwana, alias Alien Skin has been remanded to Luzira prisons over charges of assaulting medical staff of Nsambya Hospital. Trouble started when Alien Skin gang attacked Nsambya hospital after of their own, Jerome, died over injuries sustained during an earlier accident. National Unity Platform boss Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) and Winnie Byanyima, wife of Kizza Besigye have condemned the military detention of the former leader of opposition. South Sudanese fraudster jailed over shs2.3b gold scam

A South Sudanese national has been remanded to Luzira Prisons over shs2.3b gold scam. According to the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House, Abdul Aziz Yousif Mohammad Adam aka Aziz, had cheated a UAE tycoon with fake promises of selling him gold. The National Drug Authority (NDA) has arrested a senior health worker at Kamuli Hospital with stolen government ARVs worth millions of shillings. The enforcement arm of NDA found the drugs stored at Ronald Kibalya's private facility. Below is the full statement issued by NDA. Our Intelligence & Enforcement team have arrested Ronald Kibalya Nditusawa, a health worker at Kamuli Hospital with 12 boxes containing 720 tins of ARVs (64,800) doses clearly market government of Uganda not for sale. He was delivering these for sale in Nansana, Wakiso District. Mr. Kibalya was arrested with Mwesigwa Moses, Bwambale Walter and Mumbere Godfrey as they tried to move the stolen the drugs from a saloon car (Toyota Primo) Reg No. UBN 848Y. Since March 2024, NDA has recovered stolen government drugs worth over 2.5billion shillings!

Crocodile mauls woman at central Uganda island district

A giant crocodile on Monday evening mauled a mother who had gone to fetch water in Lake Victoria at the central Uganda island district of Kalangala. Henry Lubulwa, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Kalangala, told Xinhua over the telephone Tuesday the woman, aged about 40, was snatched into the lake and killed by the reptile. "Crocodiles normally hide under rocks on the lake shores and launch attacks on unsuspecting individuals who go to fetch water," Lubulwa said, adding that the body of the victim was not recovered. "We have always advised people to avoid shores that have rocks because this is where they hide after sunbathing. We also advise them to go in groups as crocodiles fear noise," he added. SH-ACU led op sees officials charged, remanded for misuse of PDM funds,

BUDUDA: Today, a joint operation involving the State House Anti corruption Unit (SH-ACU) and other agencies has resulted in the arraignment of two suspects, Wakoko Kassim and Nakhaima Francis, at the Bududa Chief Magistrates Court. Wakoko Kasim, the Parish Chief Bunandutu, faces charges of obtaining money by false pretences. He allegedly deceived several Bunandutu PDM SACCO members, fraudulently acquiring large sums under the guise of processing their funds. Nakhaima Francis, an employee of public service, stands accused of falsifying documents related to Bumakita PDM SACCO funds. Alongside accomplices still at large, they submitted erroneous returns and registered non-beneficiaries into the system. Both suspects have been remanded until 5th November 2024 while investigations continue. This development highlights ongoing efforts to combat financial misconduct and uphold integrity in fund management practices.

BREAKING NEWS: Video emerges as more than 20 Congolese killed in boat accident

Around 23 bodies have been recovered and 40 people rescued following a boat accident on Lake Kivu, Colonel Molatelo Motau of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission in Democratic Republic of Congo said on Thursday. A video (above) appeared to show the two-deck boat tilting sideways before capsizing in calm waters. A local migration authority said that around 45 males and 35 females were registered as passengers, adding that those figures were not definitive and ages were unavailable.
