Museveni fires KCCA’s Kisaka, two others over Kiteezi garbage deaths

In a shocking move, President Yoweri Museveni has fired KCCA top bosses following the death of more than 30 people in the Kiteezi garbage slide. Museveni ordered Kampala minister Minsa Kabanda to immediately fire KCCA ED Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy David Luyimbazi and the director for public health, Dr Daniel Okello. UPDF kills 27 ADF rebels in DR Congo

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces under Operation Shujaa have killed 27 Allied Democratic Forces rebels in eastern DR Congo. An army statement said the rebels were killed after fierce fighting on Monday in the jungles of DR Congo. The army said 40 abductees, mostly women and children were also rescued from the terrorists. Kampala socialite Don Nasser remanded over defilement, child trafficking

Kampala socialite Nasser Nduhukire, aka Don Nasser has been charged with defilement and aggravated trafficking in children. Nasser who is accused of defiling a 16-year-old girl appeared before Buganda Road Court this morning and was remanded to Luzira prisons until October 8, 2024. Nasser is co-accused with Promise Gatete. The were earlier denied bail as they await committal to High Court to face trial since their charges carry a maximum penalty of death.

Wavamuno son dies in bathroom accident

Joseph Wavamuno Kayima, son to prominent Ugandan tycoon Gordon Wavamuno, has died in a bathroom accident. He passed away in Thailand aged 57 at the weekend. According to the family associates, Kayima tragically died following a bathroom accident while in Thailand. The deceased had reportedly accompanied his wife Doreen for medication whose operation was scheduled for Monday, as confirmed by his elder brother Elvis. He was found dead at around 3pm local time according to reports. The news of Kayima’s death has sent shockwaves through his family and Uganda’s business community. Canada tells Amb. Acheng to leave after NUP confrontation

Canada has told Uganda’s ambassador there, Joy Acheng, to leave following reports of uncouth behaviour. The ambassador was reportedly captured on video wearing yellow while in a verbal exchange with Ugandan opposition members who were protesting against bad governance on the streets of Canada.According to Canadian authorities, these actions reportedly breached diplomatic norms, prompting the decision to declare Acheng persona non-grata. Museveni passes out 298 counter-terrorism warriors

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also the Commander in Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has today passed out 298 Counter Terrorism Warriors of Intake 07/23-24 and 58 trainees of Special Tactics who successfully completed their 9 months of hectic training at the School of Military Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola District. Govt lawyer sent to Luzira over shs100m bribe

A state attorney attached to the justice ministry has been charged with 16 counts of corruption after he allegedly solicited for a shs100m bribe. The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House worked with CID and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to pin Sam Tusubira before arraigning him in court on Tuesday. “The accused while representing government in court, solicited for a bribe of UGX100M from a plaintiff who had sued the Ministry of Lands and the Attorney General for irregular cancellation of his title, in order to assist the victim get compensated,” the unit stated. “By time of his arrest he had received about UGX43M from the victim. He has been remanded until 19th August 2024.”

More people still trapped under garbage – police

The Ugandan police said Tuesday there are still more people trapped under the waste mass, following the landslide of the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, Saturday morning. Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, told Xinhua by telephone that police are not yet sure how many people are still trapped with more reports about missing relatives filed to the police. "There are still [more] people trapped down there. It's the reason why we are still here. We can't estimate the numbers," Onyango said. He said the search and rescue efforts will continue at the garbage dump located in Kawempe, one of the five divisions of Kampala. Sh80m theft case: Korean bosses at Good Neighbors NGO grilled by police

Two Korean nationals heading an international NGO have so far recorded police statements in relation to the theft of at least sh80m which belonged to one of their junior workers. This publication has learnt that Sunyoung Shin, the Country Director for Good Neighbors International Uganda, on August 8, was grilled by police detectives at Fort Portal Regional CID offices. According to the officers, Shin denied knowledge of the money as she was not the one who ransacked the house of Bernard Kazahura, a junior worker at the Kyegegwa based NGO. Earlier, the Project Manager of Good Neighbors International Uganda at Kyaka Field office, Sinho Kang (Simon), also recorded a statement at the same office.
