Kiteezi death toll jumps to 21, list out

The number of people killed in the Kiteezi garbage dump slide has jumped to 21, according to the latest police report. Patrick Onyango, KMP spokesperson on Sunday evening released a list of those killed in the Saturday fatal incident. Kiteezi Updates: IGP orders arrest of KCCA spokesperson

Hours after President Yoweri Museveni ordered the arrest and prosecution of officials who allowed the ill-fated families to settle near the garbage dump site in Kiteezi, Wakiso district resulting in the death of 18 people, the police boss has ordered the first arrest. And the culprit is the spokesperson of Kampala Capital City Authority, the managers of the waste in the city and surrounding areas. “Deputy IGG @AnneTwino & the IGP @igp_ug1 order the arrest of @KCCAUG Head of Public & Corporate Affairs, Daniel NuweAbiine, for obstructing @IGGUganda investigations into the garbage slide at Kiteezi. Kiteezi updates: 18 confirmed dead as Museveni orders arrests

President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the arrest and prosecution of officials who allowed the ill-fated families to settle near the garbage dump site in Kiteezi, Wakiso district as the death toll hit 18. The tough talking Museveni stated on his social media handle on X, stated that, “The first question that comes to mind is: “Who allowed People to live near such a potentially hazardous and dangerous heap?” Even without peeling off and burying People, the effluent alone (ejyurigyiriro) must be hazardous to health.” He went on to direct the Deputy IGG and police boss to probe further how the people came to settle in such a dangerous place. EXCLUSIVE: Top Korean NGO boss wanted over shs80m theft allegations

A senior Korean national official working at a local NGO is on police's wanted list to record a statement over allegations of theft of shs80m. The Project Manager of Good Neighbors Uganda at Kyaka Field office, Sinho Kang (Simon), is a wanted man by detectives at Kyegegwa Central police station. According to sources, Simon broke into the apartment of his junior Ugandan workmate, Bernard Kazahura and forcibly confiscated his property which included log book, academic documents, clothes and shs80m. A statement recorded by Kazahura on Monday at Kyegegwa CPS indicates that he had gotten the money to go and purchase land for his brother when Simon took it. Ugandan, Kenyan flags fly high at London Pride 2024

Ugandans and Kenyans joined thousands of people who lined the streets of London for the capital’s 52nd Pride event. An estimated 32,000, including more than 500 LGBTQ+ groups, flocked to Hyde Park Corner to watch or join in the parade on Saturday (29 June). Weaving through the capital, the parade marched down Whitehall before celebrations began at various locations. Headliners included singer Bebe Rexha, Drag Race winner Ginger Johnson, and RuPaul's DragCon stars Drag Syndrome in Trafalgar Square. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan was also spotted joining in the celebrations. Recently Uganda passed into law an Anti-Homosexuality law which prescribes life imprisonment for homosexual activities. Karamoja-based cement factory on spot as workers turn to flying toilets

KAMPALA: Workers at a cement factory in Moroto district are up in arms following alleged mistreatment by their bosses. Local media reported that workers at Sunbird factory which is owned by West International Holdings Limited that will soon start manufacturing clinker have complained of poor sanitation facilities. Reports claimed at least 50 Ugandan and Chinese workers have turned to easing themselves in the bushes due to lack of washroom facilities inside the estimated $300 million factory. One of the workers told local media that, “For one to answer to nature’s call, most employees rush behind a mound of soil because there is no latrine on site, and what has helped is that Nanduget is sparsely populated area.” West International Holdings Limited is a subsidiary of China West Cement Limited. Minister Nyamutoro survives in Kigezi gun attack

The state minister for minerals, Phiona Nyamutoro, has this morning narrowly escaped being shot by private security guards at National Cement Company in Rubanda district. UIA boss Mukiza, others told to cough shs500m in honoraria awards

KAMPALA: The Director General of Uganda Investment Authority, Dr Robert Mukiza, and several other staff have been ordered to refund at least shs545m that the group awarded themselves as honoraria payment. According to sources, the man was paid off the loan-funded Kampala Industrial Park Development project. The directive was issued by UIA board chairman, Morrison Rwakakamba under the orders of privatization state minister Evelyn Anite. The directive indicates that Mukiza had received shs82m while his deputy, Robert Kyalimpa pocketed shs58m on July 23, 2023. The minister wanted the money refunded in 24 hours but it is not clear whether the officials have since returned it since the directive came on June 12.
