Former district boss jailed for stealing wreckage of govt car

KAMPALA: A former district chairperson will spend almost two years in jail after being convicted of theft of a wrecked government vehicle. “This morning, the Grade One Magistrates' Court in Matuga has convicted and sentenced the former Amudat district LC5 Chairperson, Francis Kiyonga Adamson, to 23 months and 14 days in jail and a fine of UGX 80M to be paid to Amudat district within six months of completing his sentence,” Anti-Corruption Unit of State House noted. Kiyonga was charged in 2021 with stealing and selling spare parts of a government vehicle, a double cabin pick-up truck registration number UG 0654, belonging to the Amudat District under the Youth Livelihood Programme. He stole it from Matugga Police Station and sold it in parts.

BREAKING: Aircraft carrying Malawi’s VP goes missing

An aircraft carrying Malawi's Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing, a statement from the president's office has said. The Malawi Defense Force aircraft "went off the radar" after it left the capital, Lilongwe, on Monday morning, it added. The president ordered a search and rescue operation after aviation officials were unable to contact the aircraft, according to the BBC report. It was supposed to land at Mzuzu International Airport, in the country’s north, just after 10:00 local time (11:00 BST). Govt names, warns car bonds harboring illegal immigrants

The government has named leading car bonds behind the employment of illegal aliens following an operation in which more than 80 mainly Pakistanis and Indians were arrested. The Internal Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi, revealed that Future Group, Chatha Motors, Jumbo Motors and Lakhani were some of the leading car dealers who employ workers without permits. “Our enforcement team has arrested 38 irregular immigrants. Museveni promotes Bobi Wine’s tormentor in major police changes

President Yoweri Museveni has reinstated Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Frank Mwesigwa as the director of operations services (OPS) due to his actions during the 2020 presidential campaigns, which resulted in 54 fatalities. Promoted to his current rank in 2022, Mwesigwa oversaw operations that led to the arrest of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, on November 18, 2020, in Luuka district, Busoga. Gen Dick Olum replaced as Operation Shujaa commander

President Yoweri Museveni has made changes in the Uganda People's Defense Forces, replacing Operation Shujaa commander Maj Gen Dick Olum with Maj Gen Richard Otto. Col. Deo Akiiki, the army spokesperson, confirmed the developments. "H:E the president has appointed Maj Gen Richard Otto the New Commander of Mountain Division and therefore Comdr Operation Shuuja, Maj. Gen. Dick Olum heads to South Sudan Stabilisation Mechanism where Maj. Gen. Otto has been representing Uganda," Akiiki said. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) has initiated inquiries into seven suspected cases of fraud related to land and gold scams against city lawyer and chairman of Kampala District Land Board, David Balondemu. Minister Anyakun returns from Oman after initiating talks on better deals for Ugandans

Ugandans working in Oman are hoping for better pay and working conditions following efforts by the Minister of State of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Esther Anyakun, to initiate a memorandum of understanding with Muscat. Earlier this week Anyakun led a delegation to visit Oman where they held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Labour of Oman, Mahad Said Ali Baawain, regarding opening up a new market for Ugandans.
