Museveni encourages scientists to join UPDF

President Yoweri Museveni has called on young scientists to consider joining the military to consolidate the social-economic transformation path the country embarked on since 1986. Museveni made the comments on Wednesday at State House Entebbe while delivering a lecture of opportunity to 91 young scientists who have been undergoing a two-month training at Special Forces Command Sera Kasenyi Training School. “In order to consolidate you, those who are able can join the army properly to be trained either as specialists or can do an Officer Cadet course. I shall discuss with the CDF to see what can be offered to you, then you choose what you want. After that we shall deploy you in so many areas of science,” he stated. Jinja Pastor convicted of forgery

BY URN Jinja High Court has convicted Daniel Muwanga, the pastor of Rock Base Church in Jinja City Southern Division on two counts of forgery and uttering false documents. He was found guilty by Lady Justice Winifred Nabisinde who fined him Shillings 2 million. Muwanga was charged in 2020 with forging documents related to 3.5 acres of land that he allegedly grabbed from his family friend, Reverend Canon Charles Irongo, the deacon of Kyando Parish in Mayuge District. The disputed land is situated in Kyamagwa Cell in Jinja City Northern Division. It was reported that Irongo had sought financial assistance from Muwanga in 2018, providing the land title of his farmland as security. He repaid the undisclosed sum of money in December 2018. Education Ministry new headquarters will be at Kyambogo

The Ministry of Education and Sports has commenced construction of its own headquarters. This initiative is anticipated to result in annual savings of 4.5 billion shillings, which they have been spending on rent. Currently, the ministry rents office spaces for its technical staff, and departments in various private buildings, including Legacy Towers in Nakasero for higher education and basic education officers, Rwenzori Courts for various projects, and Statistic House, which houses the Sports department, among others. UPDF gunships devastate big ADF camp in DRC

KAMPALA: The Uganda People’s Defense Forces gunships have attacked a big camp of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), leaving it devastated. According to President Yoweri Museveni, the attack happened on Saturday at least 60km from Ntoroko inside DRC. “This is to inform you that today, the 21st of October, 2023, we paid a serious visit to the ADF terrorists in Congo. Our gunships attacked a big camp of these criminals, 60km from the border, Ntoroko side,” Museveni said. Uganda says AIDS deaths down 70% in past 12 years

KAMPALA: Uganda said that AIDS-related deaths in the East African country fell from 56,000 in 2010 to 17,000 in 2022, down nearly 70 percent in 12 years, as reported by Xinhua News Agency. During the past decade, Uganda made tremendous progress in achieving sustained reduction in new HIV infections and HIV incidence, as well as HIV/AIDS-related morbidity and mortality in most population groups," Daniel Byamukama, who heads HIV prevention at the Uganda AIDS Commission, told a press briefing Monday in Kampala, the Ugandan capital. Uganda AIDS Commission is a government organization mandated with the provision of oversight and coordination of all HIV/AIDS-related activities in the country. "In 2022, the country registered 52,000 new HIV infections and 17,000 AIDS-related deaths, compared to 94,000 new infections and 56,000 AIDS-related deaths in 2010," Byamukama said. Kabale teacher arrested for sodomising primary school girl

Police in Kabale have arrested Ambrose Rukundo, 31, a teacher at Triple M Primary School for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old girl of the same school. Rukundo is a resident of Kibuzije village in Rubanda district. The case was reported by Sam Katama, 40, a peasant resident of Karushanga village, Kaharo sub-county in Kabale. Police said the suspect called the victim in the staff room where he was alone to bring books and after which forced her into a sexual act. Henry Kyemba (1939-2023): Curtain falls on “State Of Blood” author

KAMPALA. On October 19, 2023, the final curtain fell on the life of Henry Kyemba, a veteran Ugandan politician, civil servant, and author. Family members said Kyemba passed on peacefully early morning on Thursday, at the age of 84. Kyemba’s life story is illuminated by his years of service as the private secretary to presidents; Apollo Milton Obote and Idi Amin Dada, a minister in the Amin and Museveni governments, a member of the constituent assembly that made the 1995 constitution, and a member of the sixth parliament of Uganda. Maria Nagirinya, Kitayimbwa murderers sentenced to life in prison

KAMPALA. The key suspect in the murders of Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimbwa, Compoliyamu Kasolo has been sentenced to life in prison. High court, Isaac Muwata found Kasolo guilty of committing six offenses. Kasolo who opted to defend himself when asked to speak, said that he didn’t agree with the decisions of the court saying that he is to file an appeal. Johnson Lubega another suspect among the five was also sentenced to life imprisonment. The judge said Lubega directly participated in the kidnap, murder, and robbing of Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa. The other suspect Isaac Ssenabulya pleaded guilty and was sentenced. The judge found the duo guilty of each of the six counts. They are to serve each of the sentences concurrently. A joint planning meeting between the government and the private sector was held yesterday at the Directorate of Ethics and Integrity ahead of the 8th edition of the Nyege Nyege festival that is happening from November 9th to 12th in Jinja City. Tourists killed in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Security teams are persuing suspected ADF rebels, said to have killed two foreign tourists and a Ugandan in Queen Elizabeth National Park today.  Police spokesman Fred Enanga confirmed the incident, saying the suspected rebels thereafter torched a land cruiser belonging to Wild Gorilla Safaris registration number UBF 303C. “We have registered a cowardly terrorist attack on two foreign tourists and a Ugandan in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The three were killed, and their safari vehicle burnt. Our joint forces responded immediately upon receiving the information and are aggressively pursuing the suspected ADF rebels,” Enanga said.
