Three Officials Arraigned Over Land Fraud
LIRA. The State House Anti Corruption Unit with the police have arraigned Owani Kenneth Allan before Anti-Corruption Court on charges of corruption and conspiracy to defraud. The charges read to the suspects on Wednesday are linked to an alleged bribery scheme involving fraudulent land title claims in Lira District. Owani joins former Lira District land board Chairperson Chankoma Paul and Councillor Ojuka Anthony, who were earlier charged. The trio allegedly solicited a UGX 70 million bribe from Eryao Francis, a land buyer, and received UGX 5 million as part payment. The officials claimed that Eryao’s land title had been fraudulently issued to previous owners and was due for cancellation.
