Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga has said he will not resign from his current position of Parliament Commissioner as demanded by National Unity Platform leadership. Mpuuga said he will not bend to current self-seekers hell-bent on breaking him. He said he will continue guiding the young politicians in NUP to bring sanity to the party. Tayebwa vows to engage EU on unfair trade restrictions after being elected to bureau of OACPS

LUANDA, ANGOLA— Uganda's Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has been elected member of the bureau to represent East Africa to the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) - European Union General Assembly.  Tayebwa was elected during the 64th session of the OACPS Parliamentary. Assembly and Constitutive Sessions of the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assemblies happening in Luanda, Angola, between 17 – 21. UBOS sets guidelines for census enumerators as it goes digital

The Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), has revealed that only people with smartphones and mobile money numbers registered in their names will be recruited to enumerate in the national population census. Uganda is set to carry out its 6th national population census on the night of the 9th leading to May 10th, 2024. More than 120,000 enumerators will be recruited. How mission to rob sh2.4b from NRM boss was executed

KAMPALA: The police have arrested 12 suspects, including their own for robbing sh2.4b from the home of NRM treasurer Barbara Oundo Nekesa. Museveni pardons ex-NSSF boss Jamwa, several defilers

David Chandi Jamwa, the former boss at National Social Security Fund (NSSF), is now a free man after being pardoned by President Yoweri Museveni. Nine other convicts were also pardoned along with Jamwa on various grounds. Jamwa was found guilty of causing Shs3.1 billion financial loss to NSSF in February 2011 by the Anti-Corruption Court on grounds that he prematurely sold treasury bonds to defunct Crane Bank while he was the managing director. In June same year, he appealed and was granted bail. Court of appeal upheld the sentence. Unsatisfied, he filed another appeal before the Supreme Court. In 2019 the Supreme Court cancelled his bail terms, sent him to Luzira pending final verdict. Jamwa had been on bail since 2011. In 2020, The justices of the Supreme Court upheld the 12yr sentence given earlier by the Anti Corruption Court.

Police, military deploy heavily ahead of joint opposition presser at Katonga Road

KAMPALA: Security operatives from police and military have been deployed at Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga Road offices where the FDC Katonga faction and political activists from other opposition parties had planned to hold a joint press conference this morning. According to Kizza Besigye, the leader of the faction at Katonga, "Police has been alternating the barricading and opening of access to our Katonga Rd offices since morning!"
