GERMANY. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has been admitted to a mental hospital in Namibia, according to a letter attributed to Martin Andjaba, the ambassador to Germany, which is circulating on social media. The letter dated May 24, 2024 mentions that Kabaka Mutebi arrived in Namibia on April 14 and is undergoing psychotherapy for an stress-related medical condition. While the authenticity of the letter remains unverified, our quick search confirmed the existence of the Okonguarrai Therapeutic Centre in Namibia, and that Andjaba is indeed Namibia’s ambassador to Germany. Police dog tracks down Namisindwa chairperson in Shs 10m robbery

NAMISINDWA. Police in Namisindwa are actively seeking the LC I chairperson of Bubutu TC cell, accusing them of masterminding the theft of Shs 10 million. Allegedly, Fred Masika led a group of armed individuals in a raid on Kibeti Mutuma's shop, where they took Shs 7 million, and also targeted Paulo Manawa's shop, stealing Shs 3 million. During a search on Friday, police, accompanied by a sniffer dog, traced Masika's residence but found it empty. Imran Muluga, the Namisidwa resident district commissioner, expressed concern over the increasing frequency of shop break-ins in Bubutu town council, Bubutu sub-county, and Lwakhakha town. Housebreaking tools were reportedly discovered during a search of Masika's home.

Civil society group fails to block sh1.4 trillion for Lubowa Hospital

The Constitutional Court in Kampala has dismissed a petition in which Civil Society Organization Initiative for Social Economic Rights (ISER) wanted to stop a parliamentary resolution to guarantee sh1.4 trillion to an Italian Investor for construction of an ultra-modern Hospital in Lubowa. In a unanimous decision, the Constitutional Court of Justices Fredrick Egonda-Ntende, Catherine Bamugemereire, Irene Mulyagonja, Monica Mugenyi, and Oscar Kihika threw out the petition. The Justices have dismissed the petition against the Attorney General on grounds that Parliament passed a resolution after the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Finance had entered into the Direct Agreement for the financing of the loan in issue and therefore it did not come into operation until the resolution was passed, as is required by Article 159 (5) of the Constitution. Ugandan MP escapes death in deadly land dispute.

A Ugandan Member of Parliament representing Buhweju survived death in a bitter land fight in which seven other people including a Vision Group reporter were injured. Accounts of the incident differ. According to Deo Atuhaire Omuhatizi, the LCV Chairperson of Buhweju District, Mwijukye was assaulted by a group of land usurpers in Rwanyamabare Nyakishana sub-county before being struck by stones and harmed. The altercation took place on Sunday, May 12, at Rwanyambale village. "Police have transported him for medical attention. Supporters of Honorable Mwijukye and the public are urged to remain calm as authorities pursue the perpetrators." Exclusive: Kabaka Mutebi seen in Namibia park

KAMPALA. The first photo of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has surfaced after a prolonged absence from public view. The photo copied from private social media users and shared by Mengo spokesperson Israel Kazibwe, depicts the Kabaka seated alongside a gentleman identified by a Facebook page-Agfa mu Lubiri as Ambassador Ndawula with the latter holding the Kabaka's arm.  The background suggests a remote, forested area which according to Mr. Kazibwe is a "game facility" in Namibia. Speaker Among has houses in London, British ambassador tells Museveni

KAMPALA. The British High Commissioner in Uganda has told President Yoweri Museveni that Speaker Anita Among has houses in London.  On April 30, the United Kingdom announced its first-ever corruption-related sanctions against Uganda, targeting Ms Among, Ms Mary Goretti Kitutu, and Ms Agness Nandutu, both former ministers responsible for the restive mineral-rich Karamoja region. The sanctions consist of travel bans and asset freezes. Britain's deputy foreign minister, Andrew Mitchell, said in a statement that Kitutu and Nandutu stole a significant quantity of iron sheets from a government-funded housing initiative intended to aid vulnerable communities in Karamoja. Ntinda priest regrets toy car girl incident

KAMPALA. St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish in Ntinda has publicly apologized for an incident where a young girl used a toy car during her baptism ceremony inside the church. Several videos circulating on social media show a baby steering an electric ride-on toy car from the church's entrance to the altar. Engineer Tumukugize remanded over theft of Kiruddu hospital mattresses

Darlington Tumukugize a biomedical engineer working with Kiruddu national referral hospital was on Friday remanded to Luzira prison on charges of theft of eight mattresses and other government valuables. Tumukugize was arraigned before the court presided over by grade one magistrate Patience Lorna Mukundane. He was charged with two counts: possessing stolen property and unlawful possession of government stores contrary to the Penal Code Act. Court heard that on April 23 at Kakoola village Ndejje parish in Wakiso district, Tumukugize had in his possession certain government stores. They included four hospital mattresses, one blue mattress labelled community advance and three other hospital mattresses with a black mackintosh bearing the marks applied on stores under the control of Kiruddu and Mulago hospitals.
