US gives Uganda shs95 billion for refugees assistance

BY URN The United States is allocating over 25 million dollars (approximately 95.3 billion shillings) in aid for refugees and food security in Uganda. This assistance, part of U.S. government commitments, is being distributed through USAID and the Department of State. In addition to this aid, the U.S. is supporting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Program (WFP) to assist refugees in Uganda who are experiencing food insecurity due to ongoing conflict in the region. USAID is providing 11 million dollars to WFP, while the Department of State is contributing more than 14 million dollars to UNHCR. According to USAID Spokesperson Jessica Jennings, these funds will help provide essential food assistance, healthcare, education, and emergency relief to Uganda's 1.6 million refugees, making it the largest refugee-hosting country in Africa. Ugandan court rules harsh anti-gay law is constitutional

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 is legal and will be upheld, save for four issues. The ruling came following a petition by a group of activists who wanted the law trashed. However court rules that only four sections in the law were illegal and should be repealed. KAMPALA: Ugandan Justice Julia Sebutinde has been elected as vice president of the UN-backed International Court of Justice (ICJ). This was announced in a Tuesday press release by the ICJ, exciting millions of Ugandans. "Judge Julia Sebutinde (Uganda) was today elected Vice-President of the International Court of Justice by her peers, for a term of three years," ICJ announced. King Charles III diagnosed with cancer

King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, says Buckingham Palace. BBC reports that the type of cancer has not been revealed - it is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King began "regular treatments" on Monday and will postpone public duties during it, the Palace said. The Monarch, 75, "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," it added. Hage Geingob death: Namibia’s new President Mbumba sworn-in hours after predecessor dies
