More people still trapped under garbage – police

The Ugandan police said Tuesday there are still more people trapped under the waste mass, following the landslide of the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, Saturday morning. Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, told Xinhua by telephone that police are not yet sure how many people are still trapped with more reports about missing relatives filed to the police. Sh80m theft case: Korean bosses at Good Neighbors NGO grilled by police

Two Korean nationals heading an international NGO have so far recorded police statements in relation to the theft of at least sh80m which belonged to one of their junior workers. This publication has learnt that Sunyoung Shin, the Country Director for Good Neighbors International Uganda, on August 8, was grilled by police detectives at Fort Portal Regional CID offices. According to the officers, Shin denied knowledge of the money as she was not the one who ransacked the house of Bernard Kazahura, a junior worker at the Kyegegwa based NGO. Kiteezi death toll jumps to 21, list out

The number of people killed in the Kiteezi garbage dump slide has jumped to 21, according to the latest police report. Uganda landfill collapse leaves several dead

A landfill collapsed in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, killing eight people including two children, authorities said on Saturday. Heavy rainfall caused the collapse of the landfill late on Friday. Known as Kiteezi, the landfill has served as Kampala's only garbage dump for decades, turning gradually into a big hill of garbage. "On a very sad note eight people have so far been found dead, six adults and two children," the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
