Investor fined shs200 mln for depositing murrum in wetland

MUKONO. The Standards Utilities and Wildlife Court has sentenced Kerim Ray, the Director of Yamani Construction Limited, to pay a fine of  200 million shillings. He was also ordered to restore the Lwajjali Wetland in Mukono.  Kerim Ray is through his company accused of having encroached upon and deposited murrum in Lwajjalli wetland. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu, found Kerim Ray guilty of violating environmental laws and sentenced him to a fine of shs150 million and in default, five years in prison for the first count. He was ordered to pay 50 million shillings for depositing murram in the wetland, and in default, serve two years in prison for the second count. A senior Korean national official working at a local NGO is on police's wanted list to record a statement over allegations of theft of shs80m. The Project Manager of Good Neighbors Uganda at Kyaka Field office, Sinho Kang (Simon), is a wanted man by detectives at Kyegegwa Central police station. According to sources, Simon broke into the apartment of his junior Ugandan workmate, Bernard Kazahura and forcibly confiscated his property which included log book, academic documents, clothes and shs80m. Kenya Protests: At least 39 dead and more than 350 injured

At least 39 people died and more than 350 were injured during anti-government protests in Kenya, according to the country’s national human rights commission. “According to our data, thirty-nine people were killed and 361 more were injured during protests across the country,” it said, adding that thirty-two people are missing and 627 were detained. Kenyan President William Ruto said earlier that that the protests had claimed 19 lives. However, Human Rights Watch reported 31 fatalities in the capital city alone. “The commission continues to strongly condemn the unjustified violence against the protesters, medical personnel, lawyers, journalists, churches, first-aid centers and ambulances,” it said. The Parliament of Uganda has been recalled from their break to reconsider the 2024/2025 financial year budget. Former RCC Burora has been arrested for “critiquing Speaker Among”

KAMPALA. Former RCC for Rubaga Division Herbert Anderson Burora bas been taken into custody allegedly collowing his outspoken criticisms and accusations of corruption directed at the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Ugandan, Kenyan flags fly high at London Pride 2024

Ugandans and Kenyans joined thousands of people who lined the streets of London for the capital’s 52nd Pride event. An estimated 32,000, including more than 500 LGBTQ+ groups, flocked to Hyde Park Corner to watch or join in the parade on Saturday (29 June). Weaving through the capital, the parade marched down Whitehall before celebrations began at various locations. Kaggwa Njala suspended from NBS over Mpuuga money posts

KAMPALA. Simon Njala Kaggwa, a senior talk show host at NBS TV, has been suspended for 14 days for hosting Mathias Mpuuga's thanksgiving event in Masaka on June 21. Karamoja-based cement factory on spot as workers turn to flying toilets

KAMPALA: Workers at a cement factory in Moroto district are up in arms following alleged mistreatment by their bosses. Local media reported that workers at Sunbird factory which is owned by West International Holdings Limited that will soon start manufacturing clinker have complained of poor sanitation facilities. Reports claimed at least 50 Ugandan and Chinese workers have turned to easing themselves in the bushes due to lack of washroom facilities inside the estimated $300 million factory.
