Engineer Tumukugize remanded over theft of Kiruddu hospital mattresses

Darlington Tumukugize a biomedical engineer working with Kiruddu national referral hospital was on Friday remanded to Luzira prison on charges of theft of eight mattresses and other government valuables. Tumukugize was arraigned before the court presided over by grade one magistrate Patience Lorna Mukundane. He was charged with two counts: possessing stolen property and unlawful possession of government stores contrary to the Penal Code Act. Court heard that on April 23 at Kakoola village Ndejje parish in Wakiso district, Tumukugize had in his possession certain government stores. They included four hospital mattresses, one blue mattress labelled community advance and three other hospital mattresses with a black mackintosh bearing the marks applied on stores under the control of Kiruddu and Mulago hospitals. Minister Anyakun returns from Oman after initiating talks on better deals for Ugandans

Ugandans working in Oman are hoping for better pay and working conditions following efforts by the Minister of State of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Esther Anyakun, to initiate a memorandum of understanding with Muscat. Earlier this week Anyakun led a delegation to visit Oman where they held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Labour of Oman, Mahad Said Ali Baawain, regarding opening up a new market for Ugandans. According to ministry sources, the meeting agreed to initiate an MoU to expedite the process of Labour Migration in order to officially recruit Ugandans in Oman. “Hon. Anyakun commended the relations between the two countries and encouraged Hon Baawain to visit Uganda and explore the investment opportunities here,” a source said. Four remanded over illegal occupation of Mpigi prime land

The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House working with police has netted four suspects who illegally occupied acres of land in Mpigi district. In a statement, the unit said: "Working with @CID1_UG, we have arraigned four suspects before the the Chief Magistrates Court, Mpigi on charges of Forcible Detainer after they forcefully took possession of land belonging to Lubega Charles Lwanga." "The 56 acres of land at Namwawula Mpigi were rightly bought by Lubega Charles from the rightful owners but, the suspects forged documents which they used to forcibly take possession of the said land by deploying private security guards," the unit added. The suspects have been remanded until May 8.

Museveni meets senior officials from oil giant Total

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met TotalEnergies President for Exploration and Production, Nicolas Terraz who paid a courtesy call on him at State House-Entebbe. Mr. Terraz, who has been visiting the oil exploration sites under the Tilenga project, briefed President Museveni on the progress of the project and also solicited for more support to ensure the success of the operations. “I visited the sites at Tilenga and the pipeline. EFRIS: Uganda manufacturers disagree with traders

KAMPALA. The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has expressed its backing for the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) while also pinpointing shortcomings in its execution by government agencies. UMA Chairman Deo Kayemba noted that although the system is crucial for effective tax administration, taxpayers lack understanding of it, as well as the tax structure, emphasizing the need for thorough public awareness before implementation. EFRIS facilitates real-time issuance and management of e-receipts and e-invoices for business operations, streamlining daily transactions and administration. Transactions initiated through the system promptly transmit details to tax authorities for e-receipt and e-invoice generation, primarily aimed at monitoring value-added tax (VAT) payment and ensuring proper record-keeping. NRM bosses dominate LDC graduation list

Karimojong woman beats man into coma over asking for sex

KARAMOJA. A 30-year-old man in Nakapiripirit district, northern Uganda has been hospitalized in critical condition at Tokora health center IV after being severely beaten into a coma when he made advances towards a woman. Joseph Aleper, a resident of Acherer trading centre in Moruita sub-county, encountered trouble on Thursday afternoon when he propositioned a woman named Evelyne Napakol, also a resident of the area, for sexual relations.  Napakol allegedly rejected Aleper's advances, leading to a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Benna Akol, a friend of Napakol, joined the fight and severely beat Aleper into a coma.
