Court stops Lawyers’ meeting to discuss Museveni letter to Chief Justice

BY URN. KAMPALA. Uganda Law Society (ULS) Extra Ordinary Meeting due this afternoon has been stopped by The High Court in Kampala. The order issued by Civil Division’s Justice Musa Ssekaana follows a successful application by one of the members of Uganda Law Society Brian Kirima against his professional body where he said he was going to suffer irreparable damages if the meeting goes on. This the second time the High Court is blocking an extraordinary general meeting called by Uganda Law Society in this year 2024. Ministry closes two medical schools in Luwero over expired licences, extortion

The Ministry of Education and Sports has closed two health training schools in Luwero over expired licences. St. Denison Health Training School and Luweero School of Clinical Officers were closed with immediate effect. This was done after the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports suspended their licenses until further guidance is given. The Ministry's action followed investigations by the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House and Luwero Police that revealed among others that the schools' provisional licenses expired in 2013 and 2017, respectively, and had not been renewed to date. The schools were also involved in admission of non-qualifying students who are extorted in the process and issuance of fake academic papers.

King Charles III diagnosed with cancer

King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, says Buckingham Palace. BBC reports that the type of cancer has not been revealed - it is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King began "regular treatments" on Monday and will postpone public duties during it, the Palace said. The Monarch, 75, "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," it added. No further details are being shared on the stage of cancer or a prognosis. Uganda Airlines hunts for more pilots in a bid to fight delays, cancellations

KAMPALA: Uganda Airlines is hunting for more than 20 pilots and First Officers in a bid to close flight cancellation and delay gaps that have rocked the national carrier since December. David Kaweesa, the Uganda Airlines head of flight operations, told media at the weekend the company was short of cabin crew and efforts were underway to fill the vacuume. He said out of the 24 required pilots and flight officers, the airline only has 13 of each. "So we have to fill this shortage. Getting a pilot from interview time to operational takes us five months. Hage Geingob death: Namibia’s new President Mbumba sworn-in hours after predecessor dies

By BBC Namibia has a new president in the shape of Nangolo Mbumba just hours after, as vice-president, he had announced the death of his predecessor. Hage Geingob, 82, died early on Sunday while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in the capital, Windhoek. A veteran of the country's independence struggle, Mr Geingob had been diagnosed with cancer and revealed the details to the public last month. Jubilation in Lira after alleged land graber remanded

On Friday 2nd February jubilations and ululations rocked Lira City as victims of land grabbing and impunity that has for years been exhibited by Betty Amongi’s leading campaigner  tycoon Geoffrey Etwop, was finally brought to an end. Claiming to have deep connections everywhere in Uganda and more so State House, Etwop had distinguished himself as an untouchable land grabber who never spared even public land if it belonged to the Government of Uganda. He had strong backers and collaborators inside the land board that was in charge before Lira was elevated to city status. RCC Burora says Uganda leadership is “a disgrace”

KAMPALA. The Deputy City Resident Commission (RCC)-Lubaga Division Anderson Burora has hit out at his ruling government for blatant impunity and security flaws and he has described Uganda's leadership as a disgrace. 20 vandals arrested over stealing Northern bypass furniture

BY URN KAMPALA. Police and the army have apprehended 20 suspected vandals accused of damaging road furniture along the Northern bypass. The operation involved deploying covert personnel, later reinforced by uniformed police officers and soldiers in the Masanafu and Busega areas, where the highest incidents of vandalism have been recorded. Road guards, security camera poles, and signposts are the most affected furniture.  The operation commenced with the apprehension of Umar Kitimbo, who, not only confessed to participating in road furniture vandalism but also cooperated with investigators by leading them to his accomplices. Relatives of 18 missing NUP supporters storm High court

KAMPALA. Relatives of the 18 missing supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have stormed the High court civil division in Kampala demanding their immediate release.
