Parliament orders arrest of Tourism PS Katusiime over accountability issues

The Public Accounts Committee has ordered the Police to arrest Doreen Katusiime, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism after MPs accused her of habitually refusing to respond to accountability queries and instead, delegating her roles to juniors. The Committee was told the Katusiime took her annual leave a few days to the scheduled meeting with Parliament. Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala County), the PAC chair, was forced to issue summons for the arrest of Katusiime after the clerk to the Committee revealed that the Permanent Secretary pulled similar move last year, forcing the Committee to consider the audit report of the Ministry of Tourism. Two jailed over theft of PDM cash in Sironko

Two people have been sent to prison over theft of PDM cash meant for beneficiaries in Sironko district. The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House said the Busita Sub-County LC3 Chairperson Mukota Patrick Benerd and a one Nambozo Hellen were remanded until next month. Suspected land grabber on the run over illegal possession of gun

Wakiso-based property broker Kenneth Keeya is on police's wanted after reportedly trying to grab land using an illegal gun. Trouble started when Keeya together with another suspected land grabber only identified as Gaddafi descended on a disputed piece of wetland at Kalidubi in Makindye Ssabagabo and tried to grab it forcibly.Police was quick to swing into action, arresting Gaddafi while Keeya managed to escape. RCC Burora says Uganda leadership is “a disgrace”

Kiryandongo leaders throw out CMD Investments for messing sh3.5b project

Kiryandongo District leaders have vowed to decline CMD Investments Limited a company which was contracted to construct the 3.36 billion Kigumba seed secondary school on future projects. The leaders cite inconsistency and failure to adhere to the contract terms evidenced during the construction of both Kitwara and Kigumba seed secondary schools by the same contractor. The leaders made the vow during the site meeting held on January 18,2024 at Kiryandongo District headquarters to discuss the fate of the stalled Kigumba Seed Secondary school. The construction of the 3.36 billion school was launched in May 2023 and expected to be complete by September 2024. Defence Ministry seeks Shs2.5 billion for EACOP security

PARLIAMENT. Government is seeking Shs2.5 billion to deploy the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) to secure the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). This was revealed by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Vincent Ssempijja who appeared before the Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs on Thursday, 11 January 2024. The EACOP is a pipeline that will transport oil produced from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania. The pipeline is buried and once topsoil and vegetation have been re-instated, people and animals will be able to cross freely anywhere along its length. “Tanzania is ready; they have budgeted for security of the pipeline but Uganda is not . Luwero hit by Shs41m PDM scandal of ghost beneficiaries

LUWERO: Luwero Resident District Commissioner Richard Bwabye has ordered the police to investigate the district commercial office for alleged embezzlement of funds meant for the Parish Development Model (PDM) programme. It is alleged that at least Shs41 million was withdrawn from the accounts of several PDM Saccos and paid to beneficiaries unknown to group leaders. The affected PDM Saccos include Migadde Parish Sacco located in Katikamu sub-county which lost Shs13 million and Buyego PDM Sacco in Ndejje town council whose Shs15 million cash was withdrawn without the knowledge of the executive committee leaders. Other affected PDM Saccos include Kakinzi, Kalwanga, Kyawangabi and Bukammbagga all located in Butuntumula sub-county, which lost a total of Shs13 million. Former railways boss charged with forgery

KAMPALA: The former Managing Director of Uganda Railways Corporation, Stanley Sendegeya, has been remanded on charges of forgery and uttering false documents. According to court documents, Sendegeya forged and presented fake documents before getting the railways’ topmost job. Sendegeya was arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court and the charges read to him. Natasha Mariam, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit spokesperson, said Sendegeya was netted in an operation by the unit and the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police (CID) on November 22. “Sendegeya is accused of forging and presenting documents proving that he had the requisite academic qualifications for the position of managing director, which he did not,” Mariam said.
