Police officers remanded over gold robbery

KAMPALA. Four police officers from the Flying Squad Unit, Kireka based Police have been remanded to prison over allegations of robbing a businessman of gold valued at over Shs 380 million. The accused officers are Detective Superintendent James Besigye Kiguuya, Detective Corporals Simon Owona, Pracid Mulangira, and Officer Monday Tibaijuka. According to prosecutors, the officers allegedly stole one kilogram of gold worth $105,000 and $1,000 in cash from businessman John Vian Tumukunde on May 9, 2025, at Solent Avenue in Nakawa Division. The suspects reportedly used firearms and other deadly weapons during the robbery, and the prosecution claims they had planned the crime in advance. Kampala socialite Don Nasser remanded over defilement, child trafficking

Kampala socialite Nasser Nduhukire, aka Don Nasser has been charged with defilement and aggravated trafficking in children. Nasser who is accused of defiling a 16-year-old girl appeared before Buganda Road Court this morning and was remanded to Luzira prisons until October 8, 2024. Nasser is co-accused with Promise Gatete. The were earlier denied bail as they await committal to High Court to face trial since their charges carry a maximum penalty of death.

Govt lawyer sent to Luzira over shs100m bribe

A state attorney attached to the justice ministry has been charged with 16 counts of corruption after he allegedly solicited for a shs100m bribe. The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House worked with CID and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to pin Sam Tusubira before arraigning him in court on Tuesday. “The accused while representing government in court, solicited for a bribe of UGX100M from a plaintiff who had sued the Ministry of Lands and the Attorney General for irregular cancellation of his title, in order to assist the victim get compensated,” the unit stated. “By time of his arrest he had received about UGX43M from the victim. He has been remanded until 19th August 2024.”

Katanga murder: Accused daughter Nkwanzi remanded for destroying evidence

KAMPALA: Martha Nkwanzi, a daughter to the late businessman Henry Katanga has been remanded to Luzira prison for allegedly destroying evidence in the murder of her father. Nkwanzi surprisingly surrendered herself to Nakawa Chief Magistrate, Erias Kakooza on Wednesday afternoon. The same court on Monday issued a warrant of arrest against her after she was again a no-show in court. During the court session on Monday, the defence team, represented by McDusman Kabega, along with lawyers; Bruce Musinguzi and Jet Tumwebaze, stated that Nkwanzi is recuperating at Roswell Hospital following a childbirth. Former railways boss charged with forgery

KAMPALA: The former Managing Director of Uganda Railways Corporation, Stanley Sendegeya, has been remanded on charges of forgery and uttering false documents. According to court documents, Sendegeya forged and presented fake documents before getting the railways’ topmost job. Sendegeya was arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court and the charges read to him. Natasha Mariam, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit spokesperson, said Sendegeya was netted in an operation by the unit and the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police (CID) on November 22. “Sendegeya is accused of forging and presenting documents proving that he had the requisite academic qualifications for the position of managing director, which he did not,” Mariam said. Chief magistrate, prosecutor granted bail in corruption case

KAMPALA: The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has granted bail to Mitooma Chief Magistrate Sylvia Nvanungi and Ssembabule State Attorney Jacqueline Bako who are facing charges of corruption, URN reports. The duo spent Wednesday night in Luzira prison after being charged and remanded on eight counts of corruption. Bako appeared on all cases while Nvanungi faces one count which she allegedly committed when she was deployed in Sembabule as a Chief Magistrate.
