Teacher Arrested for False Enrollment data in SH-ACU Op.

Masaka. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH- ACU), in conjunction with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Mr. Welishe Robert, the Head Teacher of Butale Church of Uganda Primary School, before the Masaka Chief Magistrate Court. He stands accused of providing false information and has been remanded until 23rd December 2024. It is alleged that during the period between February and May 2024, Welishe Robert, in his capacity as head teacher, intentionally submitted erroneous pupil enrollment records to the Masaka City Education Officer.  The alleged false report indicated that 423 UPE Students had been enrolled at Butale C.O.U Primary School, a figure that was not accurate.  This deliberate misinformation, according to prosecution, was done with the knowledge that it could lead to financial losses for the government.  The accusations […]

True Care Junior School Urges govt Support

WAKISO. The Headteacher of True Care Junior School, Ssalongo James Byuma, has urged local leaders to consider contributing back to educational institutions in recognition of the significant tax payments schools make. Byuma emphasized that despite schools' substantial tax contributions, they often do not receive any acknowledgment or support in return. Speaking to parents and teachers during the school's end-of-year concert held at the Ssumbwe campus in Wakiso, Byuma highlighted the financial burden schools face due to taxation without receiving tangible benefits in return. Byuma underscored the importance of local leaders at the sub-county level acknowledging the tax burdens shouldered by schools and providing support in the form of essential items like desks or scholastic materials as a gesture of appreciation. St Peter’s Nsambya HM accused of faking age

KAMPALA: St. Peter Nsambya Secondary School's Head Teacher, Remigius Mubiru Mungere, is facing heat over allegations of age falsification and abuse of office following an extended tenure. Reports suggest that Mr. Mungere was expected to retire in September 2023 but allegedly altered his age to remain in his position for additional years. Concerns have been raised by insiders about the need for an investigation by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to address these issues promptly. Among other accusations also is misuse of school resources, nepotism in employment practices, and mishandling of funds collected for construction purposes. Despite attempts to reach out for comment, Mr. Mungere has not responded to inquiries.

P.5 pupil commits suicide after being forced to go to school in Soroti

A primary five pupil of Awoja Bridge Primary School in Soroti district, eastern Uganda has allegedly committed suicide. Julius Alou, 17, was found hanging on a mango tree on Thursday by residents of Awoja village, Aukot sub-county after going missing for days. Mbarara University vice chancellor is new UNEB chairperson

Professor Celestino Obua, the Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, has been appointed the new Chairperson of the Uganda Examinations Board (UNEB). Professor Obua’s appointment was announced by Education Minister Janet Museveni. He was subsequently sworn in during a Friday afternoon board meeting convened at the UNEB headquarters in Ntinda. Two pupils dead in Masaka school fire

MASAKA.Police has confirmed that two pupils of Kasaana Junior School in, Nyendo-Mukungwe division, Masaka City have died in a fire that burned down a dormitory.  The incident that happened at 4:00am also left 11 pupils injured. The dead have been identified as Aloysius Ahebwa and Malik Katende. Those critically injured include Christine Adong, a school Matron, Austin Kisembo, Jordan Ssendagire, Arnold Tumwesige, Sharid Mwanje among others. According to school authorities, the dormitory accommodated 15 children of Top and Primary One class. Makerere University lecturers reject biometric clock-in system again

KAMPALA. Makerere University teaching staff have roundly rejected the biometric staff attendance management system meant to record their clock-in times. The resolution was passed during an emergency general assembly held on October 20 by the lecturers under their umbrella organization, Makerere University Academic Staff Association (Muasa). The university recently decided to procure and deploy a biometric staff management system to enhance staff compliance with time and attendance requirements. According to the university secretary Yusuf Kiranda, this biometric system is intended to be linked to the human capital management (HCM) attendance module and will be implemented as a physical clock-in system across the university, where each staff member would have to clock in at their respective duty stations. Education Ministry new headquarters will be at Kyambogo

The Ministry of Education and Sports has commenced construction of its own headquarters. This initiative is anticipated to result in annual savings of 4.5 billion shillings, which they have been spending on rent. Currently, the ministry rents office spaces for its technical staff, and departments in various private buildings, including Legacy Towers in Nakasero for higher education and basic education officers, Rwenzori Courts for various projects, and Statistic House, which houses the Sports department, among others.
