SH-ACU Foils DFCU Bank Fraud Scheme

KAMPALA. An alleged frsudster Ngabirano Gerald has been arraigned today by the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) at Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court where he has been charged with forgery, uttering false documents, and conspiracy to commit fraud. Mr Ngabirano  was remanded to Ndorwa Prison until March 4, 2025. It comes after  in January 2025, when SH-ACU intercepted a plot targeting Karekezi Stephen’s DFCU Bank account after a whistleblower alert. Alleged fraudsters, including Ngabirano, allegedly secured illicit garnishee orders from Deputy Registrar Tumwebaze Kenneth, directing UGX 689 million withdrawal for a fictitious debt. Fake documents and manipulated court processes enabled the fraudulent orders. SH-ACU swiftly froze the account, averting financial loss. Collaborators remain at large as investigations continue.

Kenyan national killed in Kabale accident en-route to Rwanda

KAMPALA: A Kenyan national was on Friday killed in a road accident as he drove manure to Rwanda. Police said, the accident occurred at Kyanamira trading centre, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district, along the Kabale-Mbarara highway. The deceased has been identified as Ramadhan Hussein, 49, who was driving trailer number KDM 588E /ZE3608 white and grey in colour Mercedes Benz. “It's alleged that a trailer which was being driven by one Ramadhan Hussein now the deceased from Kenya heading to Rwanda which was carrying manure,” the police said. “When it reached at Kyanamira trading centre, the driver failed to negotiate the corner and the vehicle overturned hence, he died instantly,” Police added. Uganda records at least 200,000 deaths as a result of accidents annually, according to police reports.
