Four banned from public office over forest Land

KAMPALA. The Anti-Corruption Division Court in Kampala has convicted and sentenced four individuals, including two former Lira District land officials and two businessmen, for their roles in fraudulently acquiring a title for part of the Lira Central Forest Reserve. The convicts are Omara Geoffrey, former Physical Planner of Lira, who was sentenced to pay a fine of UGX 2 million or serve four years in prison. Ocen Alwong Joseph, former Senior Land Management Officer of Lira, was fined UGX 1 million or face two years in prison. Okello Lawrence, a businessman, was sentenced to pay a fine of UGX 6.4 million or serve two years in prison. SH-ACU: Businessman Charged with Gomba Land Fraud

GOMBA. A businessman, Fred Kirenga, has been charged with fraudulently procuring a Certificate of Title for land in Gomba District. He allegedly obtained a freehold title for Block 311, Plots 36 and 37, despite knowing that another title for the same land already existed. The land in question belongs to Madhvani Group Ltd, and Kirenga has been remanded until July 8, 2025. This case is part of a larger land fraud scandal involving several officials. The accused allegedly engaged in forgery, fraudulent procurement of certificates of title, and conspiracy to commit misdemeanors and felonies. SH-ACU arrests Mpigi Officials Over alleged Bribery

MPIGI. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate, has arrested the Mpigi District LCV Chairperson, Martin Ssejjemba, and two District Service Commission officials, Frederick Kirumira and Sarah Nakamoga, for allegedly soliciting bribes in exchange for jobs. The SH-ACU is headed by Brg Henry Isolde, whose tenure has seen a tremendous fight against corruption. The arrests were made on June 27, 2025, following a directive from President Yoweri Museveni, who received complaints about widespread corruption in the district's recruitment process during his Parish Development Model monitoring tour on June 17, 2025. Applicants were allegedly required to pay bribes ranging from 50,000 to 15 million Ugandan shillings to be considered for employment. Police officer forges case against businessman to steal land

KAMPALA. In a shocking case of alleged police misconduct, a law enforcement officer has been charged with destroying evidence and obstructing justice. Detective Sergeant Ngabirano Protasi, attached to Nsangi Police Station, was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Makindye on Friday. According to the charges, Sgt. Ngabirano allegedly conspired with others to falsely implicate Richard Sewanonda in an aggravated robbery case. The motive behind this alleged forgery was to steal Sewanonda's contested land. Investigations by the State House Anti Corruption Unit headed by Brig Henry Isolde, revealed that in January 2025, Ngabirano purportedly removed a key witness statement from an official police file at Katwe Police Station and substituted it with a statement implicating Sewanonda. Justice Served for Land Dispute

NAKIFUMA. The Nakifuma Magistrates Court has convicted and sentenced two individuals, Nanfuka Christine and Nasejje Halima, to community service and fines, with a one-year custodial sentence in default. The duo pleaded guilty to disobeying lawful orders related to a land dispute in Nkonge Village, Mukono district. According to the prosecution, between February and April 2025, the accused unlawfully denied Nansereko Zaina access to her land, defying a court order that upheld her right to use her portion of the property. Despite repeated warnings, they continued to harass the victim and hired individuals to violently block her from accessing the land. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, CID, and Office of the Director Public Prosecutions worked together to arraign the accused. A third suspect, Kirya Patrick, is also part of the case.

Three Officials Arraigned Over Land Fraud

LIRA. The State House Anti Corruption Unit with the police have arraigned Owani Kenneth Allan before  Anti-Corruption Court on charges of corruption and conspiracy to defraud. The charges read to the suspects on Wednesday are linked to an alleged  bribery scheme involving fraudulent land title claims in Lira District. Owani joins former Lira District land board Chairperson Chankoma Paul and Councillor Ojuka Anthony, who were earlier charged. The trio allegedly solicited a UGX 70 million bribe from Eryao Francis, a land buyer, and received UGX 5 million as part payment. The officials claimed that Eryao’s land title had been fraudulently issued to previous owners and was due for cancellation. Ssembuze Elly and Miyingo Vicent were arraigned before the Kajjansi Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges stemming from a land dispute incident in Namulanda Ward, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.
