Ugandan lawmakers have condemned the Electoral Commission (EC) for withholding the official gazettement of Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola, the National Unity Platform (NUP) victor of the Kawempe North by-election, delaying his parliamentary swearing-in. During a Thursday plenary session chaired by Speaker Anita Among, Kira MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda highlighted the inconsistency, contrasting Nalukoola’s unresolved status with Igara East MP Michael Mawanda’s swift inauguration within 24 hours of his win. Speaker Among clarified procedural constraints, stating Parliament cannot swear in members without the EC’s gazette, a document she emphasized was still pending. Kampala Lawyer Nalukoola Wins NUP Flag

KAMPALA. Lawyer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi has been selected as the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the Kawempe North by-election. He was officially declared the candidate on Tuesday by the NUP Election Management Committee at the party headquarters in Kavule, Makerere. Last week, Luyimbazi competed against nine other aspirants in a debate moderated by lawyer Andrew Karamaji and Dr. Judith Nalukwago. The event allowed candidates to present their visions for the constituency. Other contenders included Luwemba Lusswa Muhammad, Umar Magara, Saulo Kulya Zziwa, Serunkuuma Salim (Mafu Mafu), Kakyika Fredrick, Dr. Charles Rubagumya, Eng.
