BREAKING: Govt suspends new harsh traffic rules

Following public uproar, the government has suspended the latest traffic regulations that saw hundreds of motorists fined millions of shillings. The new rules dictated strict adherence to low speed limits up to 30km/h in urban settings while restricting drivers to less than 100km/h on expressway and dual carriages. Highways were restricted to less than 70km/h, angering motorists. Below is full statement by works ministry. Effective midnight tonight, the implementation of automated Express Penalty System [EPS Auto] will be temporarily suspended following a comprehensive review. @GenWamala will issue a detailed statement tomorrow outlining the way forward. UNOC defends appointment of Muhwezi daughter as COO

KAMPALA: The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has explained that the recruitment of city lawyer, Samantha Muhwezi, as their Chief Operations Officer went through a legal process. Daily Secrets has learnt that despite reports that the board was removed by President Yoweri Museveni over the illegal recruitment of Muhwezi, UNOC says she did not pass through the back door. Samantha is daughter of Jim Muhwezi, the minister for security. The mother, Suzan Muhwezi, heads the controversial AGOA project. “The Board of Directors at UNOC has not been removed by President Museveni or any other authority,” said UNOC in a statement.  UNOC explained that the laws only allow the board to superintend for only terms and that was the reason the President appointed a new board. Museveni pardons ex-NSSF boss Jamwa, several defilers

David Chandi Jamwa, the former boss at National Social Security Fund (NSSF), is now a free man after being pardoned by President Yoweri Museveni. Nine other convicts were also pardoned along with Jamwa on various grounds. Jamwa was found guilty of causing Shs3.1 billion financial loss to NSSF in February 2011 by the Anti-Corruption Court on grounds that he prematurely sold treasury bonds to defunct Crane Bank while he was the managing director. In June same year, he appealed and was granted bail. Court of appeal upheld the sentence. Unsatisfied, he filed another appeal before the Supreme Court. In 2019 the Supreme Court cancelled his bail terms, sent him to Luzira pending final verdict. Jamwa had been on bail since 2011. In 2020, The justices of the Supreme Court upheld the 12yr sentence given earlier by the Anti Corruption Court.

Henry Kyemba (1939-2023): Curtain falls on “State Of Blood” author

KAMPALA. On October 19, 2023, the final curtain fell on the life of Henry Kyemba, a veteran Ugandan politician, civil servant, and author. Family members said Kyemba passed on peacefully early morning on Thursday, at the age of 84. Kyemba’s life story is illuminated by his years of service as the private secretary to presidents; Apollo Milton Obote and Idi Amin Dada, a minister in the Amin and Museveni governments, a member of the constituent assembly that made the 1995 constitution, and a member of the sixth parliament of Uganda. He served as one of the members of the Judicial Service Commission, chairperson of the Madhvani Foundation Scholarship Committee, and a Rotary District governor, a testament to his commitment to duty and honor. Kitatta, Namyalo, Gashumba fail to prove ownership of ‘Tova Ku Main’ slogan

The three parties claiming ownership of the “Jajja Tova Ku Main” campaign slogan have failed to prove their claim before the Uganda Registration Services Bureau -URSB. The Head of the NRM Office of National Chairman-ONC Hadija Namyalo, Lwengo District Chairman Ibrahim Kitatta and social commentator Frank Gashumba had all claimed to be the originators of the slogan which gained popularity in late 2022 as NRM fanatics encouraged President Yoweri Museveni to hold onto the Presidency. Gashumba applied to the Uganda Registration Services Bureau -URSB to get the copyright of the slogan in May 2023 noting that he was the creator of the artistic impression of President Yoweri Museveni’s photo and slogan.
