SH-ACU foils $4.95m Scam targeting Turkish investor

KAMPALA. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) has thwarted a $4.95 million scam targeting a Turkish investor, Furkan Gumran. The scam involved a fake Ministry of Energy supply contract for AD Blue solution. Four suspects were arrested at AHA Towers in Kampala: Dr. Mulyansaka Charles, Mwesigwa Moses, Seruma Moses, and Watum Peter. They have been paraded before the press on Tuesday. SH-ACU Deputy Head, Mr. Israel Ochwo, praised Mr. Gumran for seeking clarification before proceeding with transactions. Mr. Ochwo urged foreign investors to verify government contract proposals with SH-ACU or the State House Investors Protection Unit (SH-IPU). He commended Mr. Gumran's prudence, saying it exemplifies how investors should respond to suspicious deals. Former Rakai District Service Commission Chairperson Sentenced for Corruption

KAMPALA. The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court in Uganda has convicted and sentenced Mpuga David, the former Chairperson of the Rakai District Service Commission, to five years imprisonment or a fine of UGX 7.2 million.  Mpuga was found guilty of extorting and demanding bribes from job applicants in the district, specifically soliciting UGX 20 million from a candidate seeking the position of Agricultural Officer. Mpuga's corrupt activities were uncovered after numerous public complaints were directed to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Rakai, highlighting his persistent demands for bribes associated with job vacancies.  The Brig. Gomba District Officials Charged with Extortion

Gomba. Three senior officials from Gomba District, including two District Service Commission members and the District Inspector of Schools, have been charged with extortion and soliciting bribes for government jobs. Mugerwa John Bosco, Chairperson of the Gomba District Service Commission, Muwonge Michael, Secretary of the Commission, and Lwanga Charles, District Inspector of Schools, were arraigned before the Grade 1 Magistrate Court in Gomba District on July 10, 2025. The officials allegedly conspired to extort money from job applicants, demanding bribes ranging from UGX 1 million to UGX 20 million in exchange for job placements between February and November 2024. Four banned from public office over forest Land

KAMPALA. The Anti-Corruption Division Court in Kampala has convicted and sentenced four individuals, including two former Lira District land officials and two businessmen, for their roles in fraudulently acquiring a title for part of the Lira Central Forest Reserve. The convicts are Omara Geoffrey, former Physical Planner of Lira, who was sentenced to pay a fine of UGX 2 million or serve four years in prison. Ocen Alwong Joseph, former Senior Land Management Officer of Lira, was fined UGX 1 million or face two years in prison. Okello Lawrence, a businessman, was sentenced to pay a fine of UGX 6.4 million or serve two years in prison. SHACU targets corruption in greater Mpigi

MPIGI. The Deputy Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Mr. Israel Ochwo, has announced that the Unit has launched investigations into corruption allegations in Greater Mpigi, covering Mpigi, Butambala, and Gomba districts. Speaking live on Buwama FM, Mr. Ochwo on Wednesday morning, highlighted the Unit's past successes in tackling corruption, which he attributed to collaboration with other anti-corruption agencies. He emphasized that corruption should be shunned by all and that citizens have a crucial role to play in reporting corrupt activities. Busia Officials Remanded Over Grant Fraud

BUSIA. After months of community engagement and public forums in Busia Municipality, several district officials have been arraigned before the Busia Chief Magistrates Court on charges of theft and conspiracy to defraud the government. The charges stem from alleged irregularities in the handling of a UGX 1 billion road maintenance grant. Deputy RDC Gomba Remanded Over Land

KAMPALA. The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Gomba, Mugenyi Vicent has been remanded until June 5, 2025, following his appearance before the Anti-Corruption Court. The case stems from an investigation carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Mugenyi Vicent faces charges related to abuse of office, as well as allegations involving the irregular processing of land documents during his tenure as a cartographer between 2016 and 2017. Anti-Corruption Efforts Intensify

KAMPALA.  In a move to tackle corruption, the State House Anti Corruption Unit ( SH-ACU) headed by Brig Henry Isoke has  joined forces with the Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity, Hon. Akello Lilly Rose, for a joint inspection and Community Engagement meeting in Greater Masaka District and City on November 23, 2024. The event aimed to address reported service delivery gaps and promote transparency. Key issues discussed during the meeting included extortion of Parish Development Model beneficiaries, fraudulent sale of government land, and poor construction standards of government schools.
