High Court acquits suspects in Gen Katumba Wamala attempted murder case

KAMPALA: Yusuf Nyanzi, the primary suspect in the attempted murder of Gen Katumba Wamala in June 2021, has been cleared of charges by the High Court. Nyanzi, who has spent time in Luzira prison over eight years and is involved in three separate high-profile murder cases, including those of Maj Muhammad Kiggundu and former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, was released alongside Hussein Sserubula due to insufficient evidence linking them to terrorism charges and the murder of Katumba's daughter and driver, as well as the attempted murder of Katumba himself. However, charges including murder, attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated robbery, and affiliation with a terrorist organization have been confirmed against six other accused individuals by the same court. Prisons suspend visits, parties and leave ahead of Christmas

KAMPALA: The Uganda Prisons Services have visits, parties and leave among other measures aimed at curbing any form of terrorism and prison break ahead of the festive season. Commissioner of Prisons Johnson Byabashaija announced the raft of measures in his Friday communication to commanders. He asked the officers to strengthen prison security, intelligence and coordination with other security agencies. “Hired prisoner services (Kibarua) is suspended.
