Police officers remanded over gold robbery

KAMPALA. Four police officers from the Flying Squad Unit, Kireka based Police have been remanded to prison over allegations of robbing a businessman of gold valued at over Shs 380 million. The accused officers are Detective Superintendent James Besigye Kiguuya, Detective Corporals Simon Owona, Pracid Mulangira, and Officer Monday Tibaijuka. According to prosecutors, the officers allegedly stole one kilogram of gold worth $105,000 and $1,000 in cash from businessman John Vian Tumukunde on May 9, 2025, at Solent Avenue in Nakawa Division. The suspects reportedly used firearms and other deadly weapons during the robbery, and the prosecution claims they had planned the crime in advance. Police officer forges case against businessman to steal land

KAMPALA. In a shocking case of alleged police misconduct, a law enforcement officer has been charged with destroying evidence and obstructing justice. Detective Sergeant Ngabirano Protasi, attached to Nsangi Police Station, was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Makindye on Friday. According to the charges, Sgt. Ngabirano allegedly conspired with others to falsely implicate Richard Sewanonda in an aggravated robbery case. The motive behind this alleged forgery was to steal Sewanonda's contested land. Investigations by the State House Anti Corruption Unit headed by Brig Henry Isolde, revealed that in January 2025, Ngabirano purportedly removed a key witness statement from an official police file at Katwe Police Station and substituted it with a statement implicating Sewanonda. Kampala, Uganda: The former spokesperson for the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Charles Twiine appeared in court on Thursday to face serious charges including inciting violence, hate speech, spreading malicious information, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The charges stem from an alleged plot to assassinate President Yoweri Museveni and his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces. People arrested under Uganda’s 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Act (AHA) face stigma, abuse and even rape in the nation’s prisons and police cells. Such cases have increased as more people are arrested under the law’s provisions. Attorney Ronald Abitegeka says he got at least one client who reported being raped shortly after he was detained under the law. Abitegeka works for ALIGHT Uganda (formerly American Refugee Committee) an NGO in the Isingiro district that operates in six refugee settlements, five transit centers, and border points. ALIGHT Uganda’s work includes monitoring refugee settlements and inmates. His client wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons. Four remanded over illegal occupation of Mpigi prime land

The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House working with police has netted four suspects who illegally occupied acres of land in Mpigi district. In a statement, the unit said: "Working with @CID1_UG, we have arraigned four suspects before the the Chief Magistrates Court, Mpigi on charges of Forcible Detainer after they forcefully took possession of land belonging to Lubega Charles Lwanga." "The 56 acres of land at Namwawula Mpigi were rightly bought by Lubega Charles from the rightful owners but, the suspects forged documents which they used to forcibly take possession of the said land by deploying private security guards," the unit added. The suspects have been remanded until May 8.

Police hunt senior Kyambogo lecturer over aggravated defilement

KAMPALA: The police have arrested several phone snatchers who have been terrorizing passengers and other motorists in areas of Wandegeya.
